Any particular trick to tracking that sucka' down?

The guard at the front gate told me they would give me a magic amulet or something and did not. Explored all over the friggin place and killed lots of stuff but found/killed nothing that keyed the end of the quest or that seemed like it was the creature they were talking about...

 

Do what any good hunter of beasts does. Find its tracks, follow them to it's lair, and exterminate it.

 

It's tracks are located to the north of the village. Just follow them and you should run across a run-down building. It is in that building.

 

seems like there are a couple of places in the game that rely on this "follow the tracks" technique.

I failed to pick up on any of them. Duh.

Is there a magic amulet and, if so, who is supposed to give it to me?

 

Yes there is a magic amulet. The guard that gave you the quest is supposed to give you the amulet.

 

I believe the amulet gives you poison resistance.

 

at negative 20 reaction...

 

It is the Serpentine Necklace. I think it only decreases reaction by 5, and it doubles the rate at which the poison leaves your system.

 

You could always get a follower to wear it, like with that dark helm.

 

You'd probably have to take away every other necklace he/she has though.

 

yeah, the follower will switch necklaces every time...

 

Just steal it from the guard or kill him then sell the necklace if you cant use it
