I'm interested in creating new models and artwork (such as items, weapons, containers, tables, etc.) for use in a modification I'm creating. Does anyone have any clue how I would go about doing this?

I am proficient in AutoCAD R14 and above, 3D Studio Max 3 and above, Rhinocerous 3D NURBS modeler, Photoshop 4 and above, and Paintshop Pro. I have some programming experience with assembly and C++, however it's is not really enough to claim myself as a programmer. Also, I am always ready and willing to learn new techniques, programs, and programming languages to accomplish my goal.

Any help you could provide would be excellent. Either post a reply or e-mail me at robb@roadperformance.com. Thanks in advance.

That's what I am trying to ask too. The graphics in this game has the *.art and *.bmp extension. The *.bmp extension only covers the portraits and the maps so not a chance there. Items and NPC models are mostly covered with the *.art extension. I don't know what opens with it except for AOL but I'm not sure if it works.

    some of my ideas...

here are some ideas i had for creating new objects/models...

    1. a race of friendly lizard people
    2. a full casino (slot machines and craps tables, for example)
    3. internal combustion engines
    4. new weapons (whips, new grenades)
    5. new armor (ancient japan, for example)

eventually i want to completely overhaul arcanum to take more of a modern look.

    anyway...

what is the relation you see at .art files? i can't seem to find where the object and scenery artwork is kept... am i missing something here?

    thanks in advance,
    Robb

Troika have said that they MIGHT release their art tools to edit the graphics. When they do or if they do I wouldn't know.

From what I can remember, most of the 'art' files are in Arcanum1.dat in the 'arcanum' directory. You'll have to undat it yourself as well as the other arcanumNUM.dat files(all 1.2 gig of them). However, as far as adding in your own pcitures goes, I'm not sure how to do it. No-one I've ever talked to has got any idea, the only response being 'it can't be done because Troika haven't given us their tools to do it with'.

Try hassling Troika for the tools and see what happens.

Also, I'd be very interested in your casino items....

    sounds good...

Ok, I just sent an e-mail to Troika telling them that I would like to know how the graphics and artwork can be changed. My reason: I would like to release a whole new campaign, and an artwork pack for people to use in creating new missions/maps.

We'll see what we can do about the artwork.

Ok, If i can get this done and get some good models out there, how would I go about getting them hosted on Terra Arcanum? If I'm going to create this, I would like to get it out to other mapmakers as quickly and widespread as possible, and it seems Terra Arcanum is the most popular (and therefore most efficient) website regarding Arcanum. Once again, any help is appreciated greatly.

    Thanks in advance,
    Robb

We already have a working ART2BMP converter, and a graphical viewer called RedView, we may release them tomorrow or the day after. Then I'll be writting down with Red! the .ART file specs, after that is done, we will start researching the final aspects of ART files so we can make a BMP2ART.

BTW, maybe Troika doesn't want to release their ART tools because they would be embarrased, ARTs just suck
And my Undat is twice as fast as dbmaker, and that is really surprising since I'm not an experienced programmer like they would be.

Anyway, stay tuned, soon a new era in Arcanum modding will start, the Hardcore Mod Era!

edit: Mistook viewer's name, it's RedView, not BOSView.

That would be a "yes". Contact me when you have something done and we'll discuss the options.
