I find that the greater spiders have got to be one of the more frustrating and unproductive encounters I've come across so far. Beat, beat, beat, slash, slash, slash and where have you got. Nowhere extremely fast. It's like watching a Richard Simmons' workout video. What I dislike the most about these spiders is once you have disabled all of them and start to kill them, so much effort goes into this process and one doesn't see much of a return on experience. Yet you take something like the putrid rats that poison you not quite as bad and are a lot easier to dispatch and I get a ton of experience from these things. Is this a balance issue or are they designed like this? Are some monsters more easily killed using guns than they are killed by swords and axes? _________________ If it's good for you, put it away and try something else instead. [ This Message was edited by: Blunder on 2001-05-28 11:12 ]
I noticed that Sogg could beat the greater Spider with ease with the hammer he had. (inferno hammer) So I guess they're resistant to skashing damage and vulnerable to blunt/fire weapons.
Poison works well also, and quite frankly the XP Return is greater than you think. I got nearly 3k XP in one encounter with them
I agree that if I encounter about 5 of them, I will get about 3k exp. For my char, that is one light on the experience bar. On the other hand, if I came apon the same sized group of putrid rats, I would get between 7k-9k for this fight and I've taken less poison damage, I've been hit less and I haven't put nearly as much effort into killing the rats as I put into doing away with the spiders. If it wasn't for the spiders fatiguing so easily and going unconsious, I would be dead way before the spiders where ready to quit fighting.
I have to agree with Blunder. The greater spiders doesn`t pose as much of a challenge, and they sertainly don`t revard you with alot of exp. The small spiders in Bessies mine where extremely though at the time though, and posed (to me) a slight challenge. - Zen
you get about 400 xp per lesser spider, which is quite interesting considering that i kill them in one or two swipes of the sword
