Shouldn't magic items tell you what MA is required to get full effectiveness out of the item? Right now (In the demo) they only say what effectiveness you have at your current MA. Also, you can't see the effectiveness of an item wielded by an NPC follower. I may have no idea how much MA is needed to power up an item that I am giving to a follower, because my MA is high enough to get 100%. Also, what about special abilities on items like the axe of strength? When do you get the +1 to STR and CON? at 1%? 50%?
Thats strange because I always get the magik sword from the doc and give it to virgil, I checked on him and it told me he had 76 effectiveness And I don't think they should, because a sword is a sword even if its magikal, if its fully powered you'll know and get the full damage [ This Message was edited by: Jureel_Krix on 2001-05-25 10:16 ]
I am not positive, but I believe when I hover over an item than an NPC has equiped, It tells me when effectiveness I (The PC) would have with the item, not the NPCs. That is why I wanted to know the level at which an item is fully effective in the first place. (So I can give low MA people like Virgil low powered items)
Um well as a techie I should have gotten a 0. Not a 76 Because I had no apptitude for magik, therefore i also would have a critical failure chance, but I didn't [ This Message was edited by: Jureel_Krix on 2001-05-25 12:09 ]
Well, I have used a few dwarven techs and they usualy get 0 effect from magical items as well as not getting much effect from spells. But then They usualy started out with 40 tech aptitude and quickly got more.
Jureel: I double checked, and the effectivness of a magic Item is as if the PC were using it, not the NPC. This is the case even when the NPC has the item in-hand. Also, even with a MA of 5 on the tech side, the effectiveness of the sword is 20%. And with a MA of 44 on the Tech side, it still doesn't say that there is any modifier to my critical failure chance. I just hope it is fixed in the final game, or the first patch.
Well that is strange because my guy was all the way tech, his aptitude was horribly tech no chance for magik to do anyhting to him and I still got the 76... Hrrm
