In my opinion (however biased it may be, haha) it seems that the current wikia would probably be more preferable, as it has a simpler URL and already has a basic structure.

I also already have administrator rights to http://www.arcanum.wikia.com, which would mean we wouldn't have to wait around for an administrator change or anything. I feel that it would be alot easier to simply incorporate the information that is available on the second wikia onto the first, rather than to have to set up an entirely new wikia.

But as I said, just my opinion, feel free to use the second wikia instead. :)

Are you Bruce Caelan? The one, who created the new wiki? I agree with you that the url of your wiki looks much nicer. But yours doesn't show in Google search results pretty well. Do you know what might rectify this problem?

May I ask you to give me administrative rights to it? I would really appreciate it. I will also have to check if it is possible to put one wiki down and make it redirect to another - I will contact the owner of the second wiki.

    I am indeed. :)
I'm fairly certain that the indexing problem (with arcanum.wikia.com) is due to not as much activity on it as the other wikia; alas this is no surprise as I'm currently the only one actually editing on it at this point in time.
I'm also fairly certain that if you, and hopefully a few others in the near future contribute to its articles, then it will move up to the front page of search results. :)

I'm currently unaware of as to how to give someone else administrator rights, but I shall be looking into it. What's your wikia username? That would be great if you could somehow redirect the other wikia onto my one, and then any contributors on the other one will surely come onto the one I'm currently working on.

However, as I have said, if this is too much of an issue, simply feel free to use the second wikia instead. :)

It is very good that you didn't disappear like the creator of the old wiki =)

Here's where you can edit user's permissions. Beaurocrat and admin privileges are on the right hand side after entering user's username: mine is Soshial.

I'm not sure that we can redirect other wikia's pages directly, but we can copy the material (actually, move it), put a link to our wiki and place some info, that all data was moved to other wiki. Do you think that would be okay?

I also created an Arcanum google+ page. In order to boost search results we might need to link the wiki and g+ page. But they ask this: [IMG]Uploaded with ImageShack.comю

Do you think it's possible to place this link on the Wikia?

UPD. Also, here are the rules about CLOSING OF THE WHOLE WIKIA. We can close the other wikia only if we are admins/bearucrats. I am waiting for the answer of the creator.

I've given you administrative rights. I'm not currently at home, but when I get back later this afternoon I will make sure to add the code to the wikia.

In the set of rules you linked it says that you can apply to have wikias redirect to another wikia, so once the admin of the other wikia replies, maybe you could put in a request for that? We could possibly have each of the wikias redirect to ours to further boost the audience?

Feel free to edit any theming on the wiki, I just set up a basic theme for the website which I was going to come back to. :)

Edit: Would you be able to send me the link that I need to copy into the wikia? The quality of the image you posted isn't that great so I can't identify any of the text, haha.

Thank you very much for granting the rights.

Google+ asks me for this code to paste:
    Code:
    <a href="https://plus.google.com/117336186620677797465" rel="publisher">Google+</a>
I'm still waiting for the answer of the admin of the old wiki. I will try to resend him a message.
I just want to ask for his permission to be able freely move all the content.

I wanted to ask you, what is the point of creating blank pages with no information?

Where are you from by the way? :)

Okay, cool. I'm actually currently getting a wikia username change so I can't sign in to post the code but it should be finished soon, haha.

Yeah, fair enough we wouldn't him coming back later and yelling at us for stealing the information, haha.

Oh! About that! I actually create the blank pages so I'm able to hyperlink the articles that I've written so I don't have to come back to it later, and it also helps me keep track of which articles I need to write, haha, sorry.

    I'm from Australia; and you?

    Feel free! :)
The more contributions the better, and the more contributions the more extensive the wikia will become. :)

This is probably pretty well known around here, but if you're serious about the wikia you should know that there is a fairly extensive (possibly complete) schematics guide in the RPG codex. Lots of valuable information I would think. Click here if interested.

Ahh! As I'm new here I was actually unaware of that guide!
I'll be getting in contact with the writer of the guide to ask for permission of their information soon.
    Thanks heaps Ruda! :)

Why would you want to change your username? Also, did you manage to put my link-code there? This can really boost our search results.

As to creating blank pages: this is considered quite a bad practice. If someone reads an article and sees the blue links everywhere, one can think that all these connected articles are written already and need no addition/amendment. But if they look red, this encourages a person to write at least something on the topic. Also, we can have a real representation of how many articles we still need to write. The best practice for everyone is to have their own list on their pages.

Also, why would you want to change the style of wiki? Honestly, I would really want to change it as well by making it less cumbersome and less overloaded. I really like minimalistic (but also neat and beautiful at the same time) designs. You think it's possible with state wikia means?

I'm from Russia. There is a great number of Arcanum fans from Eastern European countries :)

    Good news, everyone! :)

@QuiteAbitLate! A quite active user named Matness has registered on our wiki and he moved all articles to us from the old one.

Awesome! Now we have one wiki and can edit it without discord and dissipation of our efforts :)
Everyone is welcome to the wiki :)

I would love to help with the various bits and pieces I can remember, but the site really needs to be cleaned up before most people could be bothered. The categorisation is a mess (for example you have no list for non follower NPC:s, no bestiary categories) and your pictures cover much text, going beyond their supposed borders. It's not a fun environment to work in.

However, I didn't intend to waste this post solely on whining. Make sure to take advantage of the information stored here, and it's a real nice looking page. There is a lot of text to get you started on various beasts and location.

Actually, if I could make a suggestion, I'd advise to to begin with lore rather than gameplay. There are quite a few guides covering gameplay aspects already. Writing walkthroughs takes an enormous amount of time and isn't very fun. Instead, start writing articles on the various locations. Use the manual, the info from the link above and the game's dialogue files (and, of course, the in game books). Begin with the nations (Cumbria, Arland, Unified Kingdom). Then the important cities (Dernholm, Caladon, Tarant). Then the important factions and characters, not the ones important to the story (Virgil, the Schuylers, Joachim etc), but the ones important to the setting and its backstory (Willoughsby and the rest of the council, king & queen of Tarant, August Farad, Praetor & Maximilliam).

Write about the World, then the Arcanum storyline.

Sorry to be a bit late to the party, but I've gotten quite bored in the months between Uni, so I have been working on the Arcanum Wikia. Just thought I would leave a message here since this is where it all started. If you guys check out the wiki now, I've added more then 200 pages and over 1000 pictures.

Hey, it really looks quite decent now! Don't quite have the time for serious wiki-activity at the moment, but I propose that we start a few sugestion threads here for the major articles so that everyone can add what they remember even if they can't be bothered with writing actual articles.

Again, it looks great. Impressive work!

Good stuff Cephean, if I get round to it I might had some contributions at some point. It's nice to see that the ground work has been laid down already.

    Re:

Thanks Ruda, I've put quite a few hours work into the wiki whenever I'm bored. Personally I'm just really happy theirs a Arcanum community still around that is really quite active. Also that would be great for people to add to the wiki wherever they can, the real difficulty I'm having with the wiki is collecting resources (e.g. pictures, videos, artwork and audio) since a lot of the old websites have been taken down.

Right now on the wiki I'm just working on the Quests and just trying to get the basics down, so far I have just done Shrouded Hills... So still a fair few to go.

Thanks for the complements Jojobobo, and any help is welcomed!

    Character Index Page

So, I've had a little free time on my hands and decided to create a list of Arcanum's many NPCs. Inspired by the character pages on the Fallout wiki I decided to write short descriptions for each character. It got...old real fast. I haven't added this to the wikia since its quite an uncathegorized mess at the moment, and since I haven't really worked on a wikia before and don't want to accidentally delete someone's material (don't know if there are saved backups and so forth). to be continued...

As you can see it's not nowhere near done, but I believe I've covered all the locations mentioned entirely. Their are a few question marks relating to characters whose names I've forgotten and there are likely a few spelling mistakes.

Now I realize that I haven't been entirely consistent. I figured that to be included on the character list an NPC had to fulfill one or more of the following:

    1. Have a "known" name not "Human Villager"
    2. Have unique dialogue self explanatory
    3. Be mentioned by another character or in game text AND be present in the game Polgram is an in game character and is mentioned by Evelyn Garringsburg but doesn't have any dialogue (and is referred to by the game as "Half Ogre City Dweller" or similar) and is included. Mr Garringsburg on the other hand isn't included. He is mentioned by Evelyn and at least two newspapers but can't be found anywhere. While he may eventually have a personal wiki entry he shouldn't be on the NPC list

I noticed a while in that I hadn't been following my own rules (Note: my rules, i.e. just suggestions. Please make it known if you disagree) by including various shopkeepers. While they have dialogue (and some of them have their names referenced in their stores' names) these dialogues aren't unique (shared with other general store clerks, junk dealers, blacksmiths) and they don't have a "known" name. While Charles Doolan and Lloyd Gurloes obviously should be included, would you say the same for Slim Picket (of Slim Picket's) or Rupert (of Rupert's House of Well Worn Effects)?

I've also parenthesized some entries. These either shouldn't be on the list but were written down for my own recollection or have been written down twice (followers etc).

    Re: Character Index Page

Not to sure what happened to my last comment, I can only guess it is still yet to be approved; I hope this one will get through. But I ended up just adding all of your awesome character summaries to this page:
    http://arcanum.wikia.com/wiki/NPC%27s_and_Followers
Very unedited still, and if anyone could be bothered putting it into alphabetical order that would be great. And ill guess i will just go back to working on the page. :)
