I'm trying to participate in the negotiations of Caldon to join with Tarant. I have enough skill, but now Willoughby won't discuss it with me though it is "mentioned" in my log. I pickpocketed the book I need to help with the negotiations but I can't find the guy I'm supposed to meet who will tell me not to talk to the lobbyists. I did agree to assasinate King Farad but even after botching that quest by telling Willoughby still availed nothing. Help!! Am I missing where the guy is I have to find? Did I botch any possibility because I took too long? Any suggestions? Thorougly Disgruntled.
Hey avbleak. I think your problem is maybe to do with your level of persuasion skill. To get the quest from Willoughsby, your skill has to be high enough to learn mastery (even though he won't actually teach you mastery until you perform well in the negotiations). If you have lower persuasion, he'll still mention it (as he did to you) but he won't actually give you the quest. As with many quests, you have to actually get it "accepted" to trigger some elements of it, such as the presence of Roland (?) outside Caladon castle. In short - raise your persuasion to get the quest from WIlloughsby. [ This Message was edited by: Sheriff Fatman on 2001-11-19 22:54 ]
its one of those missing guys thing. Try doing other quests at Caladon and then go back to meet the guy.
Same problem Having problems with this one too. Played through the game for the second time, and I got my charisma to 20 and my persuasion to full (with expert) before going to speak to him. He still doesnt mention it. Last time I played the game he mentioned it to me, but said my skill wasnt high enough. So I went away, increased my skill in persuasion to full (with 18 char) went back to him and he didnt mention it. I've got a game saved just before I speak to him for the first time with 20 char and full persuasion (expert). what should I do??? HELP!!!
Sorry, Marr, I'm kind of all out. I'm reluctant to call it a bug, so maybe there is some particular conversation path. Hmmm ... *clutches at straws* ... what about making sure you ask Madam Lil "Who can make me a master persuader?" I don't think it could be an alignment thing, since the negotiation qest spawns the opportunuity for an "evil" quest.
You may need a title called Orator of Ashbury. That is one of the things he mention before offering you the job.
I finished that quest before without being an orator of Ashbury. But then again, who knows.... Its worth a try.. good luck..
Thanks Thanks for the welcome guys. Well the first time I played it through, he mentioned it and I asked if I could have the job, but he told me my skill lev wasnt high enough. So I went and gained a couple of levs, got the skills high enough went back, and I wasnt given the option again. Thinking I had missed the opportunity, I went back to an old save, 8 or 9 levs, and redid my path, ensuring that by the time I spoke to him for the first time, my char and pers would be maxed out. This time he didnt mention it, and I went through all the possible conversation decisions a couple of times (even reloading it three or four times just to make sure). I'm really stuck now, and really want to do this quest. BTW i'm playing as a female debutant (maxing out char and beaut), loads of fun having hoardes of drooling male NPCs following after me.
well i hope you're happy marr, now i'm going to have to play a game as the debutant to see what it's like, i'm never going to leave my house except to go to work........ oh well i guess i'll live
LOL! It is fun playing the debutant though. My next char will probably be an evil gnome pyromanic Yeah, done the guy in the boil as well, completed his quest by killing both mob leaders. I'm running outa ideas here.
Its a miracle! I don't know what I did. I'm playing a debutante, because Marr made it sound fun, and lo and behold i went in with 18 charisma and a higher intelligence, and maxed persuasion (expert). I had to convince him I was the one for the job and he gave me the dossier and everything! I didn't do the Ashbury quest, I didn't do the Boil quest, I don't know why this is different. My beauty was 13. I just dunno?
It's all got to do with scripts and dialogs. If you really want to know the specific requirements, use The Mod Squad's unDAT utility to extract all the files from arcanum3.dat. Then search for the Willoughsby conversation .dlg, and look through it until you've determined what the requirements are. *SPOILERS* For instance, I learned today that to be able to take the "shortcut" to Loghaire Thunderstone, you not only need a decent amount of intelligence (I think it's at least 9, anything above 8 should do), but you also need 8 persuasion, not just the intelligence as previously theorised.] */SPOILERS*
