I have the latest Arcanum patch, the unofficial patch, and the high-res mod installed so that I can play Arcanum at 1920x1080. When I scroll in-game, I experience screen tearing (a line here and there where part of the screen seems to be a frame behind the rest). Normally, enabling vertical sync is meant to fix this kind of thing. I have v-sync force-enabled in my Radeon HD 7850's Catalyst Control Center's settings, but this does not seem to help. I do not recall ever seeing a vertical sync option in Arcanum's settings. What can I do to fix this screen tearing?
Hmmm, the only thing that springs to mind is it might be something to do with the vicinity checks mentioned by Drog in this thread. There was another more recent thread where he had some rant about how it could be fixed but he didn't want to bother doing it also involving the same problem with the captain, unfortunately I can't for the life of me find that thread now. If it's not to do with the checks then I don't have any idea what else it could be - I tend to not use the high res patch myself so I'm not very experienced with it.
I don't think that this has anything to do with vicinity checks, although it's concerning to hear that using the high-res patch could make an issue like that. See this video. Watch for a few seconds and note how, when the screen is scrolled, there is screen tearing about 3/4 up the screen.
I'll try the no hardware acceleration bit. I'm already using -no3d and -doublebuffer, so the problem isn't there.

In terms of 打飛機，I'm with you, but speakers of several languages do the same (go fuck yourself, qu'est-ce que tu branles, et al). The Chinese anti-masturbation bias is all bound up in qigong and the three religions, and many others lands have similar traditions. As 小弟 goes, it's normal in most languages to refer to strangers as relatives (or has been at various times), and you establish social standing in a given situation by the one you use. It'd be polite to refer to a senior coworker as 大哥 (big brother) and a junior as 小弟 (little brother), for example. Taking the higher family rank is not so much an insult as a slight. Global logic.
