Every time I come onto this forum there's about 40-60 guests at the bottom of the screen; who are these people? Do that many active members not bother to check the "Log me on automatically each visit" box and browse offline, or is this forum plagued by serial lurkers?

Not the most interesting thread I could have made, I know, but I am curious as to why this is the case. Any ideas?

As a side point, what happened on Mon Mar 23 2009 9:35 pm or were conversations about default US english that enticing?

I only skimmed your post but the answer is no, you can't come and stay at my house.

Either people looking up Arcanum or just bots.

Why would bots lurk though? I thought they'd just make an account and hawk their wares, it doesn't make a great deal of sense for them to lurk. I guess they could be people just browsing Arcanum, but still the number does never seem to dip below 40 - I wouldn't be sure that many people would be browsing about the game at all times.

Every now and then I check who is online and at what location. Too often do those guests lurk in long abandoned & locked subforums such as ToEE or Bloodlines for it to make sense. So yeah, bots.

I never actually realised that Who is Online was even a link, otherwise I wouldn't have made this thread after my own investigation. Oh well, nevermind.

It still doesn't answer the greater mystery of what happened on 23 March 2009 though, what was there an Arcanum sale on then? Maybe it was a lynch mob after TDC following his post in the US english thread - it's the only post that was before 9.35pm.

Well there we have it then, good detective work Cypton! I'll now resume posting marginally less dull threads from time to time.

Note also that this forum runs under what could be kindly noted as an "ancient" version of phpBB, so it's probably especially susceptible to bot lurking.

It's worth it for the skin though, don't construe that as a complaint!

There's an entire Secret Society with prophesies in place as to what'll happen if Philes finishes Arcanum.

It'll happen someday, dammit. If I don't do it before Guild Wars II comes out there will be a serious delay however...

On the other hand, I'd be perfectly willing to accommodate finishing the game at a specific time if I get a 50/50 split on any side bets.

So I guess Jojobobo has to come after he's stayed at your house?

I don't post a lot, but often check in to see what's new. I guess I just don't like places to log me in automatically.

Before, after, during but in his neighbour's garden - you get the gist.

Hmmm I guess quite a few semi-active members do lurk offline, from the looks of things.

All who lurk are not bots.

What else would be lost by upgrading?

I often forget my password, so I'm grateful for the auto-log in feature. If I'm not logged in, I don't get those helpful visual cues as to which threads have changed since I last visited.

Isn't that one of those syllogism things? You know, like: All lesbians are women, but not all women are lesb... okay, that's a bad example.
