The first SAW was actually pretty clever, though any positive feelings I may have had toward the movie were expunged by the wretchedness of the rest of the series.

As for 300, it blows my mind that you could even draw a comparison to Kingdom of Heaven or Braveheart. The acting sucked, the story sucked, the cinematography sucked, the CGI and action sequences were way over the top, the historical background was mutilated, and the whole thing looked like it was filmed through a shit-stained lens. The thing that I really couldn't understand was why that steaming pile of rubbish was so wildly popular.

Because it was a good man's movie. As you said you wouldn't understand.

Danvers. Denver is in Colorado. The asbestos has been cleaned up, but it is a creepy place that attracts a lot of homeless from Salem. As for urban legends, not sure... I havent heard any though. I wouldnt be surprised to hear ghost stories though. Abandoned, run down asylum near the site of the Salem Witch Trials, just seems ripe for some.

Seems it has been demolished since I was last there though.

I think he used information mainly from the movie and what little accurate historical information he did know to wing it. It may have been a short presentation rather than essay actually, in which case those are more easy to blag.

Yeah that's what I meant, being tired and drunk never helps to make accurate posts.

Another interesting film I saw, which I guess is so bad it's good, is Plan 9 From Outer Space by Ed Wood. Poorly acted, little to no budget, Bela Lugosi died midway through filming and they used his material anyway (and not in a subtle way like Oliver Reed in Gladiator); and yet somehow it works as a film and is entertaining to watch.

Me either. When this movie came out I went with several friends to see it opening night. I dragged my feet when getting tickets because I didn't think there would be a huge demand for the movie. I think I ended up having to see it in IMAX because all of the more reasonably priced tickets were sold out. Even after seeing the movie, I don't understand the attraction.

What I like - sorted in no order:
Shawshank Redemption (just brilliant), The Dark Knight, Star Dust (beauty), Pitch Black, WALL-E, House MD (ehm, not movie I know), The Incredibles, Dawn of the dead (Zack Snyder's version), Leon (especially director's cut), Terminator 2, Starship Troopers, Fight Club, Sense and Sensibility (Ang Lee), Blues Brothers 2000 (I prefer electronic music, but this one works), Naked Gun trilogy, and, and, and...

    What I've seen most recently:
Scream 4 and Final Destination 5. No, I'm not a horror fan, I've just wanted not to broke the series. And it was worth it, both movies are fine. Regarding horrors, I can't really say I recommend it, but French movie Martyrs is interesting one. Other genres: GI Joe (see below), Centurion, A-Team, Scott Pilgrim, Watchmen.

    What I don't like:
Armageddon (bullshit of the last century), GI Joe (bullshit of this decade), Joel Schumacher's Batman movies, RoboCop 3, Borat, Ring 2.

    What no man should see:
Don't know, I don't watch movies I should not. Like that Serbian Film which my colleague have seen and from what she told me I know I won't be seeing this anytime.

Flying saucers on visible strings for the win.

Are we talking Japanese or American?

I heard about A Serbian Film several weeks ago. Was somewhat curious to see how bad it really was, but I am somewhat concerned I might get slapped with a felony charge if I store it on my computer.

I see so much hate for GI Joe, I have no fucking clue what people expected from it. If you imagine the story and the characters are being controlled by a kid upstairs then the movie makes sense. It's fucking GI Joe, the cartoons and the toys you fucking fags. As for the other Batman movies, seriously when they came out they were movies aimed for the kids and the toys that would follow. Unless you are a moron who has one of those fucked disorders where you are just not normal in the head and can't read emotions then you would of been one of the millions of kids that liked it. Wait I remember now everyone here is meant to be those fucked up people who have some disorder that doesn't allow them to be normal. My mistake guys.

You're telling me Batman had nipples so he would appeal to children?

    Try again.

Yeah, considering Joel Schumacher directed both Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, and both of those movies featured nipples on the suits as well as enlarged codpieces...not sure they were intended for children. Schumacher even claimed the design of the costumes was supposed to be anatomically erotic.

That is your entire argument? You're right we'll forget all about the special effects and the simple story and the gadgets and vehicles. Nipples on a suit trump everything else.

    Try again.

In the words of Mr. Freeze I think we should all just "Chill out".

I'll describe a scene for you. A guy has a woman chained to the ceiling. One by one he pulls all her teeth out with a pair of pliers as she pleads for her life. He proceeds to fuck her ruined bloody mouth until he has his jollies at which point he chokes the poor woman to death by deep throating her. This is all shown very graphically. Oh and he was also filming all of this. This isn't even the worst scene; trust me just don't watch it.

I thought Martyrs was fairly interesting and thought provoking too, a bit violent though. Someone gets full-body flayed.

"It looked like some sort of flying cigar."

Here's an odd movie that I saw on Netflix; Otto; or Up with Dead People
Takes an interesting spin on the zombie genera. Otto is a teenager who somehow rises from the grave and questions the meaning of his existence.
Despite the movie being very well done, I don't recommend watching it unless you can handle zombies having sex with each other. Gay zombies. Well, they're not technically zombies...the movie contains a movie, in which gay zombies rise from the grave, in an effort to show the living they have a right to both be dead and gay. Oh, and that movie within a movie is a porno. The only one who's actually a zombie is Otto, everyone else is playing a part. It's pretty funny how it's played out, though. The gay zombies kill people, wait until they reanimate, and then have sex with them.

I get the feeling I've mentioned this before; but has anyone else seen Pandorum?

I only saw it recently but it's very quickly become a cult classic in my eyes.

I really enjoyed that movie. Actually, I think I'll watch it again, now that you've brought it back to my thoughts.

Nope. It seemed promising and I love Dennis Quaid so I bought it on a whim. I haven't viewed it yet, but I'm sure I will before long.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I thought that the American version of the first Ring film was better than all the Japanese ones put together. I found all of the Japanese ones I've seen to be boring and stupid, the American one still remains quite creepy even though I've seen it a few times. For the Grudge on the other hand, I would say the reverse is true. But yeah the American Ring 2 is pretty dire.

Another good film I watched last night was the 1986 remake of The Fly. You've got to love Jeff Goldblum.

Your argument is that the complete inanity of the film was designed to market to children because filmmakers feel that intentionally making a film bad is what lures in kids? While ignoring the Disney Renaissance?

    Try again.
