I've posted this topic in th Arcanum tips and stuff...
but no one answerd me there,so i figured, that's a general disccusion right?
So i guessed i should try this here.

Did anyone noticed that many things in arcanum are from the books of Tolkien?
    for example: the durin stone?

Um... so is elves and dwarves and orcs and orgres and a whole tonne of things.....
Tolkien was the father of English mythology... Before he wrote this, dragons, elves, halflings and the such wouldn't even exist.....

i can't help you there sorry it's been a few years since i read tolkien, one thing i remember from high school is in the hobbit he mentions young hobbit puppies and old hobbit ladies but no (for lack of a better term) sexually mature hobbit girls..... hmmm possible connection to lack of female dwarves perhaps......?

But there are quiet a few women in his books that are few of the most important characters in th story.
for example in "the lord of the rings"(my name) there is Eovin who kills the leader of the Nazguls(ring carryers)

yes but in his stories he never makes mention (at least to my recollection) of sex, bathing or even going the toilet.... perhaps i should of been more clear with my examples i apologise for any confusion and i may even be wrong, it has been a while since i read any of his writings and some of my more favored books do mention those things(the belgariad series) and it may unfair for me to judge him by more "modern/popular" writing standards.and i did enjoy his books so please don't think i was deliberitly bashing him

Elves, Orcs and Dwarves in Arcanum are definitely Tolkien's - the Grim's stuff (and the folklore it was based upon put a completely different slant on the 'little people').

Halfling's - as usual - are Hobbits turned thief. The halfling label comes from D&D, but the racial charcteristics are 100% Hobbit (it says so on the tin).

There has to be a ton of stuff more, since Tolkien became the stock fantasy setting about 30 years ago. Dwarven names, magic rings, wizards, "parties-a-questing", ancient swords, etc.

The sexism is generic Fantasy brand. Tolkien didn't invent it, and we can't really blame him any more than his contemporaries for sharing the values of his generation (early to mid 20th century). Let's not forget that Adam West putting on a pair rubber pants was in the future when Tolkien was writing LOTR

I can't wait for the film. It's gonna ROCK.
