Why might Windowed mode fail?

Hi, I'm a nimrod I need help.

I have the GOG version of Arcanum and I installed the UAP091225 patch on top of it. When I run Arcanum on its own, it loads just fine. When I add "-window" to the end (because I always play my games in windowed mode), it crashes. Here's my exact command line...

C:\Users\Dave\Documents\GAMES\Arcanum\Arcanum.exe -window

[edit] I'm running Win7 64-bit, and I played Arcanum in windowed mode without a problem last year (although I do recall it was a bit tricky getting it to work in the first place, I can't recall what the fix was).

 

No idea. Works fine for me on Win 7 64 bit. But, yes, some people reported crashes.

How about you just disable scaling/stretching in your video card options?

 

I'm afraid I don't know how to do that. Can you guide me through it?

 

Sorry, can't help you with that, as it's all very different depending on your video card/monitor combo. You can try googling.

 

I'm beginning to think maybe I just gave up on windowed mode last time. Seeing the main screen (save/load/options/exit) again, I can't definitely recall it being in a window last time.

Still, if anyone has any idea why this isn't working for me, I'd appreciate an answer. Likewise, if I manage to fix it on my own I'll post how I did it.
