I purchased quite a large hammer and equiped the half-ogre follower, Sogg whatever, with it. However in battles, I don't see him using it, I don't think. (Haven't looked close) Does doing this give your followers better melee damage when they attack? (Soggy immediately equiped the hammer when I put it in his inventory. Is this a good idea or is it best to leave the follower's weaponry and armor alone?

you always have to equip your followers since for example virgil can't go thorough the enire game with a staff. be careful when you give them weapons, check how it looks in the inventory if it's red then it's too heavy and the get to hit penalties. and also be wary of the total weight on yourself and followers since having to much slows you down big time

Followers might accidentally use hexed weapons.

If the attention to detail I've seen is this game is any guide, it's not worth the risk

Perhaps...still, it would be nice to just 'accidentally' plant a hexed item on someone and watch them die from it...especially since no one knows what's causing the problem...

    *fans himself* Dreadful thing that...

True. No alignment hit, and you get rid off those annoying followers. Would they use the item if you've identified as hexed though?

They will if the hexed item they see is much more powerful.
