Perhaps he merely needs a partner to help motivate things along?

    Hello all!

I am delighted I found this website where Arcanum is still very much alive and well!
After reading some guy's memories about the game I decided to dust off my copy and (nice!) manual and start playing again. I have this urge for nostalgic games and Arcanum I have fond memories of!

So here I am, installed the official patch and I am going to take a look at this module. Congrats on all the work so far!
One tiny question: does this module include a high resolution hack as well?

I'll be here for a while I think!

Great thanks! I downloaded and installed it and it works fine with this mod. Also very cool that the visible surroundings just get bigger and all else retains its correct resolution. Great work!

So -forgive me if this is clearly stated, I haven't properly checked yet- is this unofficially the continuation of the Unofficial Patch you find all over the net, but seems to be discontinued? Or are both mods different experiences?

A:WIP borrows some content from the unofficial patch, but it is a different project, by a different author. The main difference is that the unofficial patch doesn't add anything new, it only fixes bugs/omissions.

On the other hand, A:WIP 6.0 does have a not-latest-but-still version of the UAP within itself so it's not that bad.

'Not that bad' suggests you would recommend UAP over A:WIP?

I'm merely saying, that the latest UAP is better than A:WIP when it comes to the number of fixed bugs while A:WIP is a close second. A:WIP and UAP are two different things, so I can't recommend one over another. It all depends what you're looking for.

UAP is a patch fixing most of the bugs in the game while not introducing any new content (except for some restored content).

A:WIP 6.0 is a mod introducing a lot of custom content + the restored content from the UAP and fixing almost as much (and most of the important and most noticeable) bugs as the latest UAP, seeing how one of the latest versions of the UAP is included in it. It is up to you to decide which option do you prefer.

By the way Rroyo, you should - if you want - post status updates explaining any problems or troubles you've encountered. I'm sure a few of us friendless OCD types would take it upon themselves to manically research solutions if you need any.

Greetings sir, i like your mode a lot , especially Virgil's ''Mark my map'', teleporting around the map never was so fun. Techno-freaks without teleport are in serious disadvantage compared to mages with teleport's , but it doesnt block them from learning it though.
I want to say that ''Tempter of fate'' is complete imba. 1000 gold may seem many for first glance but it can be abused so easily
'Specially for mages, for example mage with WP of 20 and master in haggle.
Go to cotswold, come in general shop, Pick lock/Unlocking cantrip the chests, sell to vendors(their own items ) rince and repeat, get in magick shop, open the chest, take the scrolls, go to any city/vendor,sell them, travel again, repeat.
i made around !200000 gold, only by that, then lazyness beated me :D, maybe you should remove the chests with items. 200000 gold equals to 200 FP or 100 Skill points.
With tempter of fate, you actually only need levels for magick(15)/followers.
Scroll prices are ridicolous, with master haggle ~2800 for scroll of ressurection. It's SO much.
I have a suggestion, it's for making possible to spend follower's points manually , not by auto-leveling.

    Hi, new user.

I pretty much made an account to ask some questions about this mod and see if there is anyone that can help me.

When I install this mod and make a new game, I cannot get past either the character creating inventory screen if my mouse rolls over certain items (specifically the cure posion icon), or after the opening cutscenes and I mouse over the chest or some items on the corpses of the people around the crash site.

I've done exactly what the installation instructions say and have no idea why this happens. The game just immediately crashes when the mouse hovers over certain things.

I'd really like to use this mod, but right now since I can't even make it past the beginning of the game unless i never look at items, it makes the game unplayable.

So the first time I played A:WIP and visited the pawnshop, he sold a bunch of the Upsy-Daisyium Gems, they were much too expensive for me at the time, so I saved up money and went back. He doesn't have them, I even used undat, went to invensource.mes and increased all items in his store to 2000...no gems. So I grabbed the description.mes file, and found two entries for the gem, neither of them work.

    Any help?

Edit1: I also just finished the tomb, I found three conceled passageways, but after going through every room, killing all I could find, I found no loot. I did however, at the end of the left most hidden passage crawl, SEE a room that looked like it had a lot of loot, just no visible way to get there.

Dead-Eye: It sounds like you too are having a problem with the game engine not wanting to read the new dats. Everyone who encounters this has had to reinstall to correct it.
    Sorry.

Zyreal: The anti-gravity gems never did work right with the invensource.mes. I had to manually add them.
And, I'm sorry to say, they do get destroyed when the inventory renews. Item 501 on the Correction List.

To get to the treasure room, when you pop out of a stairway and are mobbed by 8 foul spirits, take the first (PC's) right turn.

Everyone else: Thanks for posting the bug problems.
I'll be back on-line and in business before too much longer.

Thank you for the reply! I'll keep reinstalling and hopefully it will accept its fate to become something bigger and better.

In Vormantown module (in multiplayer) the Seamstress and the regular Smithy display floatlines when you talk to them instead of their assigned dialog. Probably forgot to change their script numbers to the new ones or maybe you didn't copy them over?

Course, it might be something on my end. I'm merely assuming it was WIP that caused this when your ported over Vormantown to singeplayer.

Don't ask me how, but when I got home tonight I had internet service. heh.

The problem is definately on your end - at least I've never had any of Vormantown's characters do that to me.

    Houston, we have a problem.

I wanted to apply my levelling scheme so I followed rroyo's instructions and it seemed OK at first. Just to be sure, I did some testing with Virgil's Debug Menu to check out if everything's alright to the very end. It isn't. The levelling scheme works like a charm up to level 49, but at the moment the PC is supposed to level up to lvl 50, the game crashes to desktop.

Any help with this matter would be highly appreciated.

    Current installation:
    Arcanum 1.0.7.4 + A:WIP 6.0 (+ a few minor hacks such as ArcanumXNoMovies.dat or rroyo's new splash screens)

    UPDATE:

Problem found and solved. I thought I'll write the solution rather than deleting the now redundant post, in case anyone else will want to play with modified leveling schemes.

xp_level.mes says only lines 1 thru 50 are valid, but that's not true. There needs to be a 51st line or else the game will eventually crash as I described. Following the formula used in my scheme, one will need to gain 80k (original) + 41k (additional) XP to level up from lvl 50 (2120k XP in the modified scheme) to level "51". In other words, if anyone will want to use my scheme, the 51st line in xp_level.mes should be as follows:

    {51}{2241000}

And then everything will work like clockwork.

Makes sense, IIRC you can still gain XP at level 50 but it'll never tick over to the next level. Seems like a bizzare way of implementing it, but atleast we know now.
