So I've played through the game so many times that going to certain places is really just a matter of directing the arrow to the right place and clicking. Nevertheless, I know that many years ago I had to look up the coordinates of some locations since I was unable to have them revealed through the natural course of the game. All this being said, is anyone aware of the means to reveal places like Bolo's or Kerlin's Altars? Or what about many of those places north of Caladon like the Cold Place or the Old Cathedral? I've never found them to appear without my knowing to go there and doing so.

While we're on the subject, what about Torg's Altar? Is it just expected that one will happen across it while on the way from Shrouded Hills to Tarant?

And furthermore, what about the Old, Blind Master's House? Since it doesn't even show up, how is one to know to go there without looking up the info and just going?

All this time I've known about these places, but never bothered to figure out how they factor into the game. I think being able to reveal them as was intended will help breathe a bit more life into old Arcanum for me.

I knew the location, though. What I'm curious about is how the locations I mentioned become revealed on the map. Many of these I originally came across once I had played Arcanum through about a dozen times. I wanted to see what I was missing. Problem is that even though I'm aware of the locations, what I want to know now is how they'd appear without my simply knowing that they're there and sending my character to them. Is there conversations or quests that reveal them? Is one simply supposed to be extra adventurous and discover them when they walk close enough?

As for the Old, Blind Master, I'm particularly curious about one is supposed to discover it without looking up the coordinates online since it doesn't show up on the map. Is there an NPC who gives you clues or directions to find it?

Oh right, my bad. I think there's a similar feature in Virgil's Debug menu you can get off of the downloads section of this site. See the thread in this forum for installing it.

I think the old blind master is more of an easter egg, I'm not aware of any way of obtaining his location in game.

    • 1) Places such as the Cold Place - rumors, dear chap, rumors. If you'd listen to all of the available rumors in towns, you'll get lots of "There's a mysterious cold place west of town, or so I've heard. Scary!" and such.

      2) Places such as Torg's Altar - indeed, there are locations which appear exactly between following key locations. A planned situation in game development, a nice surprise for the player and a sheer coincidence in the game world.

      3) Palces such as Kerlin's Altar - they are between following key locations (in this case, between the Bedokaan Village and the Strange Pond, the second being mentioned in an Ashbury rumor), yet aren't marked while one travels from Key Location A to key location B because of an oversight - the authors forgot that even if the marked route is a straight line between two locations, the actual route is a bit different and may not get close enough to a "secret" location for it to get marked, and that's how it works in Kerlin's Altar's case.

      4) The Secret Village - easter egg; you can either read about it on the Interwebz or just find it by wandering on the world map for fun.

      5) The Old Blind Master's place and the Fan Graveyard - easter eggs which are practically only found when going to the exact coordinates which you must first get to know from the Interwebz. The authors wanted it them to be like that. You know, super secret locations add spice to the game, that sort of thing.
I think that covers all of the locations which aren't marked by any NPCs.
