Oh yes, I finally found it. It was in the Stillwaters inn drawer. Okay, darn... I've the note and the passport but still no joy at the Hall of Records. :/

Okay, I got the quest from the Missus. I talked to both the servants, then found the passport. Then I found the note at the address listed in the passport. Talked to butler again. Now what? The Hall of Records doesn't work at all. And I definitely have the note. It says "Elmer blah blah blah". Help? What do I have to do to trigger the next part of that quest?

Should I go back to Qintarra and proceed with the Dark Elf quest now that I've found the book?

 

Try the Hall of Records in Tarant.

 

I have already gone back there about 5 times. And it still doesn't work. Ack...


Finally! I reloaded from an earlier save and it's now all well.

 

Btw, anyone knows why 2 dark elves would willingly serve as guards in the Panarii Temple? Did Alexander drag them screaming to this place with threats of turning them into frogs?

 

Nope, although you're probably not meant to realise they're dark elves. Keep playing and you may work it out

The head-honcho is infact, a Dark Elf. Alexander is just the frontman

 

Ahhhh I see. I guess I'll find out when and how things have got anything to do with the Dark Elves, later on.

Btw, how do I reset Arcanum? I seem to have a problem with the "Large and Tall" armour shop. Everytime I get to that shop, there isn't any inventory and this has been the case for a very long time.

 

You've got a glitched install. Sorry.

Since you've probably over-wrote any save made prior to your first visit to Tarant, ignore the armour shop for the remainder of this game and be ready to do a fresh install (and double-click the Drog'sCleanCache.bat) before playing a new round.

If, by some miracle, you still have such an early save and would be willing to restart from that point, double-click the .bat and see if that does the trick.

 

Gah! Sooo... how do I avoid a corrupted install in the future? By clearing arcanum.dat? And anything else?

Adding to the main game seems to be a crap-shoot.

The directions I gave above is the best way to go without starting completely fresh.

 

Well, then again... given that many modern games are utterly complex piece of works, it's no surprise that things can randomly break.

Thanks so much for the info. It's a good thing I save too much. ;D I won't be reloading the game but I'll keep this issue in mind.

 

Okay btw there's this really annoying thing going on in the Iron Clan place. On the first level, right path, I took that path all the way till the end to this "staircase". I went down the staircase but then, I couldn't "see" my group and the "imagery" on my screen was still from the first level. Is this some kinda bug? 'Cos I tried going down the staircase quite a few times over... :/

Ahh crud, now... I'm getting nothing but some kinda texture on my screen when I reload from the last few saves. The previous few are still all right, though.

 

I'm afraid so. Your install is sounding more and more fubar.
Personally, here's where I'd cut my losses and start over.

 

Oh man... I'm very afraid I'll have to continue playing next time. I'm seriously lacking in time to redo everything from scratch.
