Silly question about clockwork decoys

Basically, how do you use them? I can't seem to "use" them, like most items. I can only seem to drop them. This does make sense: I'd drop one in combat and presumably the enemy would be decoyed by it. But enemies just ignore it and continue to pummel on me. How are these used?

 

Maybe you throw them at or near the enemies?

Like at their feet or something? Then they chase after it perhaps?

Some of those schematics involving decoys sound really cool.

 

Ha, silly me, I figured it out. I have to put it into my belt, at which point I can throw it where I want. Now, my only problem is keeping my dumb party members from attacking it instead of the enemies :smile:
