I've noticed a few people have mentioned this here, but I haven't come across any reasonable solution yet, so I figured I'd ask.

When I give a fortifier to my followers and it wears off, they take it as attack damage from me. They go to -1000 friendliness and flip out, attack me and one another. It ends with one or both of them dead, but not before they manage to leave the party.

Call this a bug or a feature (I'm calling it a bug, since there's no reason they should react THAT badly to it, nor is there any warning about fortifiers that they'll have this effect), what I'm trying to figure out is how to deal with it. Even if I hit F5 to end attack mode, the damage has been done. So what do I do?

Don't use Fortifier on your followers?

You can safely use it if your CH is 20, however.

Obviously I'm never going to use it again. But I'm in the middle of a game and my most recent save is from after I gave it to them.

My CH isn't even remotely that high. So I'm wondering if there's something I can do in-game (or, if I have to, mod-wise) to mitigate this sudden -1000 friendliness thing. I mean, what's the point of having an unspecified effect like that which wipes out my entire party if there isn't some way to stop it?

Using a drug with such side effects on somebody is considered an attack by the game's logic.

Anyway, you can try editing your savegame and setting your CH to 20.

Thanks! Grabbed DKoepp's savegame editor and trying it now.
