    Hi,

I would like to increase range and minimum damage for firearms, but I am using the WIP mod and it seems that everything is in one huge patch file? Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks,

    kilolima

    Welcome to the forum, kilolima!

There's a couple files that came with my hack and the thing will play nicely unpacked, so go to the downloads page, and in the Modding Tools section, get yourself a copy of DATBuilder.
Now go to your Sierra/Arcanum folder and rename the Arcanum5.dat to xArcanum5.dat.
Create a folder with the name of Arcanum5.dat.
Now go to the Sierra/Arcanum/modules folder and rename the Arcanum.patch1 file to xArcanum.patch1.dat. Don't forget to add the .dat to this one - it's the only way DATBuilder can recognise it.
    Create a folder named Arcanum.patch1.

Use DATBuilder to extract all the files from the renamed dats into the respective folders and you're ready to go.

Modify and place your weapons, use the DrogsCleanCache.bat to "reset" the game's inventory, and enjoy the results.

    Thanks rroyo, for your instructions!

One more question, how do I edit the proto files? Do I need to use a hex editor?

    Thanks,

Yes, you will need a hex editor. Here's a decent one:
    http://www.catch22.net/software/hexedit

and you'll find a proto modding tutorial in the Downloads\Arcanum Modding\Arcanum Modding Resources section. Look for ArcanumProtoDocs.zip.

Just a heads-up - this is almost as far as I can help you with protos. I really don't know jack about hex-editing. :p
