    Hey all

I am getting back into Arcanum, and I have some questions. Don't know if these have been asked before.

    1: Can followers learn schematics.

2: I am playing an Archer character. I am around level 24 and my stats are as follows:

    Strength: 12
    Constitution: 10
    Dexterity: 12
    Beauty: 8
    Intelligence: 14
    Willpower: 8
    Perception: 8
Charisma: 14 (reduced to 12, fucking gypsy)

    Skills:
    Bow: 3
    Dodge: 2
    Melee: 3
    Persuade: 1
    Herbology: level 3 (poison)

The question is, what should I invest in from this point?

    No.

What is you gender, race and background?
Are you playing real time combat or turn based?
Do you want to be magic, tech, none too much or a little bit of both?

Since you are an archer, you want to max out archery. That would be 8CPs in dexterity to go up to 20 (you need 18 to max out archery, but the 20 DX bonus is worth it, especially for a turn based game).
Once you have the full dexterity, it is good to max out dodge as well.
So maxing out dexterity, bow and dodge would be your first three goals. The rest depends on the answers to the three questions.

    Human, Male, no background.

I play in turn-based unless I face a slow moving, annoying opponent like an Ore Golem or Burnowar, then it's real-time archery all the way.

I am thinking tech right now. I invested in herbology since I do not want to lose fatigue by casting in combat.

I also have this continual urge to edit my character and switch to fire-arms.

    Should I stick with Archery?

By accepting the gypsy curse and changes of path in the middle of the game, I see your playthrough is quite spontanous.

You don't really have to stick with anything, the game can be finished with pretty much every character this way or another, it gives you a lot of possible flexibility to use.

If you would want to stop investing in bow and start investing in firearms (and using bow until firearms is visibly more effective), it would take you 10 CPs to get you PE up to 18 (required for max firearms), and 5 CPs in firearms, 15 together. That possibly could do, since you can buy guns at a gun smith and use those ones, but the best ones are hand made from gun smithy and schematics. So if you would want to invest in that tree, that would be 7 CPs in gun smithy and 5(6) points in intelligence. 5 (up to 19) is required for maxing out gun smithy, while the additional one gives you a worthy INT 20 bonus. Everything together - 28 CPs (if you would want to max out all of the steps). Well, 30 if you would want to have 20 PE, but that's up to you. Quite a lot, since you will be lvl 47 before you get all of those (lvl 49 hen aiming additionaly for PE 20), but it's possible and if you think it's worth it and you are up for the challenge - go for it. Because hell, why not.

Oh, I would use an editor to shift my archer skills to firearms.

Basically, I would take the points away, an reinvest them.

If your OK with such prictices than why not. I haven't played a archer, but I know that a fire arms character is a nice one to play.

Well, the way I see it it is not cheating, since I am shifting pre-existing skill points from one class to another.

    basically reconfiguring a character.

It just seems ranged weapons are overall faster and have more damage than archery.

It would be a good idea to invest some points in melee, it helps when you run out of ammo for your bow/gun in the middle of a dungeon.

I already have three points in melee, as backup for when arrows are low.

Would you prefer a magic bow or a technological bow? Some really sweet tech bows out there.

Teach since I have already invested in herbology.

I am also planning on levelling out all my minor stats to a base 10.

    Is that recommended?

Not really required but if you got points to waste at the end.

And you will never need more for backup, I guess. Not sure about arrows (but it's propably the same) but with a gun user when buying bullets every time when it was possible, I had more of them that I could carry (therefore followers were carying them), su I never needed backup except in the strict beginning of the game (where Virgil was my backup :p ).

It's not like make any/much of a difference. It will give you just some minor bonuses, but if you have some CPs to waste and want to feel better than an average human in every stat than why not.

I know there were always some neat bows, but I never bothered making a techy archer. Seemed like a waste. Anyone ever actually used them?

Pyrotechnic Bow is the best bow in the game. It's completely devastating if you're Bow Expert.
