Hi, Arcanum came in the mail yeterday, and despite having the flu I played around with it for a bit. Two questions: 1) Is there any reason that mages can't wear armor (assuming it is not too techonological)? Perhaps I am too stuck in AD&D mode. 2) If I don't play in safe mode, I get a weird graphics problem. The world kind of freezes, so that any motion makes it look like something is digging through the ground. For example, if I move my character, instead of seeing him move, I see a black tunnel form where his pixles should have gone. What is up with that? [ This Message was edited by: Sapient on 2001-10-24 18:45 ]
1) Haven't played a mage but BFG 9000 has! 2) I had graphics problems at first too. Switching to the desktop made the palette go crazy when I switched back to the game. The patch seemed to help, but I had to re-install anyway. If half the houses are empty and you can't find anywhere to sleep, RE-INSTALL! Save yourself the grief
Graphics problem I haven't noticed any effect on spells by armor. When I first played arcanum, I was getting serious graphics glitches with my TNT2 card (and presumably any of the TNT/GFORCE line). I went to the NVIDIA site to get the latest ones and after a huge battle with windows, I got the latest drivers installed and arcanum was fine. The graphics effect I got was that the whole screen would "blur" - it was not refreshing properly. Only the shadows still would draw leaving weird patterns on the screen. Note that the effect would not happen right away; it tended to occur after looking at my or a followers inventory/shopped, etc. [ This Message was edited by: Greebley on 2001-10-24 19:51 ]
I don't think so. (I too thought it was weird, coming from D&D). There's no such thing as "class" or "alignment" in the D7D sense.
The biggest problem with a mage wearing armor in Arcanum is that it tends to be quite heavy. Mages are often rather weak physically and suffer penalties to their speed from equipping armor. ~Aldin
"The graphics effect I got was that the whole screen would "blur" " This is exactly the problem I am having. I am using an old TNT card, but I think I have the latest drivers. I will look into it. Thanks to you (and everyone else who hepled out).
