    Hi guys,

I've played Arcanum countless times and with all the mods i could get my hands on including a:wip and carcanum and i recently just wanted to go a vanilla playthrough (not counting drog's uap of course).

There is just one thing, i made a custom background for a tinkerer and i need a few more schematics up his sleeve to start off with. i was hoping i could scatter a few around the crash site where you start off the game but whenever i load up arcanum (or "Arc" which is an exact copy just made so i dont screw up the original game by accident) all i ever get is a plain field of grass.

im not getting any towns, or places, just one big empty grass map. i really just want to access the crash site to drop 2-3 schematics and an item or 2 for my budding tinkerer around the IFS Zephyr and any help on how to do so would be greatly appreciated.

What you're seeing is the "start page" for WorldEd.
When you get this, go to File, then Open. You'll be prompted by a pop-up asking if you want to save the untitled grassy map but click No.
Now select Arcanum1-024-fixed and wait for it to load.
In the Location indicator, add these coordinates: 92960 X 82592 and click Set. *
You should see the wrecked blimp, Virgil, and a square of green Xed squares.
Place the schematics where you want them and click the Save button in the work screen.
Depending upon which version of WorldEd you are using, once the save is complete, you either exit WorldEd and the 1074 version will repack the dat for you, or the 1070 version will shut down and you can move to the next step.
Go to the Arcanum\modules\Arcanum\maps folder and delete any and all files you find inside. They will be oddly named and have no file extension. Deleting these forces the game to take a fresh inventory of what's supposed to be there and will allow new items to be seen by the player.
Start a new game and enjoy the results.

*If you haven't got it already, go to the downloads section and get a copy of Arcanum-locations. It lists the WorldEd coordinates as well as the game ones for the various places.
Of course, gamearea.mes does the trick just as well.

Thank you very much for the fast reply rroyo, it seems though that I have done something wrong since there is nothing showing up when I use the open function, there seems to be nothing to open.

Perhaps I haven't copied all the correct files? I copied the arcanum.dat files from 1-7 into the modules folder (though arcanum6.dat isn't among the files and I am unsure if that is normal or if it is just missing)

Do you have an idea of what I may have missed or done wrong? Once again, thank you and I'm really sorry for the inconvenience.

There was no need to do that. Those files belong in the main Arcanum section. And Arcanum6.dat is no longer used.

When you start WorldEd, it asks you to select the module you want to open. Choose Arcanum. However -

If you are using the 1070 WorldEd, you will need to unpack the modules\Arcanum.dat to get to the main map. Rename the Arcanum.dat to XArcanum.dat, make a folder named Arcanum.dat, and extract the contents of the renamed dat into the folder. When you are done working, you can play the game with the unpacked dat or you can repack it by using the File - Compress Module function, removing the old dat and folder from the Modules section, and making sure the new dat is simply named Arcanum.dat.
The 1074 version works with packed dats so you can skip the extraction process. It takes quite a while for WorldEd to open and close the main dat so be patient.
