I'm a beginner in Arcanum and I was just curious about what people think is the best race and class/profession. What are good skills to have? What are some skills one could do without? What is better, Technology or Magic? What is the most enjoyable type of character to play? I'm asking for personal opinions and would appreciate any information I recieve. Thanks.

There are alot of good options

I played a good female debutante mage and went for a goodly number of followers.
From all I have read mages are easier to play with & probably stronger.
If you do go with a mage, take the first level fire spell that raises your dex. This is quite powerful if you use it right.
One thing I found was there are alot more skills than you can take so you miss out on something. My character never got any thieving or tech skills for example - I was interested in other areas.

PS - Not so sure the large number of followers is the way to go though... I find I am trying to rush to the monster first to get the exp before my followers kill it (every blow gives you exp).

It jsut depends on you ... I like playing characters that have either bow or throwing skills, I usually max out Charisma and Persuasion and get clsoe to that with Hagggle as well. I personally prefer magickers, and elves, but ... I've played some dwarfs, and some human techies, and they were fun too. The key is to try LOTS of different thngs, and see where it goes.

Personally, I prefer technology - the descriptions for tech items make me laugh, and I prefer the whole make-your-own-items-screw-those-high-prices philosophy.

Magick has it's advantages though, depending on the colleges. Try both roads.
