I know Arcanum has had several releases. Forgeting the DVD case only cheap release, I am interested in purchasing this great game because I never finished it before.

The first two releases of Arcanum had manuals that differed. One manual was 189 pages and the other was 144 pages. I remember one of the manuals having really tight binding and difficult to read because the text seemed smaller and the book was long and narrow. I am pretty sure this was the second release. Perhaps the PC Gamer one. I am also pretty sure this one was in a smaller box that came with a miniature strategy guide.

The Arcanum version I want is the original first boxed version. This one has a manual that is wider and more comfortable to read. Trouble is, I dont know if this one is the 144 page of 189 page version.

I am asking because I have found these online and some of them say how many pages the manual has.

    Thanks in advance.

I've got 7 manuals from varying releases and they all have 189 pages.

I've not found a Prima guide yet, possibly it has 144 pages?

Then my guess is going to go with the 144 possibly being foreign language manuals, these would have had a lower print volume than the English manual and they probably tried to condense it to save on cost.

I like my manuals long and thick. Means I can really get my head around them, and they are a lot more fun.

The guy on Ebay emailed me back and said this was 144 pages. Is yours more narrow or wider than this one?

    Stepping into a momentary tangent...

Although I'm happy that folk can get Arcanum on eBay. I mean, the more people playing the better. The fact that after all these years it's still sought after is great.

On the other side of the coin though, who the hell wants to sell their copy of Arcanum?!?

Give in, let it consume you, you know you want to. Nothing like a big thick manual, all that knowledge being shoved inside of you, sometimes I like to imagine the words are just seeping into me all over my face.

After that you can splatter some knowledge on your back and then proceed to slap your own ass.

Personally, I like to get knowledge on my chest, and rub it into my check hair... mmmm... :D

Papa Dog: Check Half price books, Re-Pc, and similar stores. There's several in the region. There's a chance one of them would have it, if all else fails, you can Ebay that shit.

    fixed for unworking link.

    Uhm...what?!
Was this in response to "..who the hell wants to sell their copy of Arcanum?!?"
Is so, this wasn't a "who the hell wants to sell their copy of Arcanum?!?" because I want to buy a copy.
    I already have one.
This was a "who the hell wants to sell their copy of Arcanum?!?", as in "who the hell would ever want to sell their copy of Arcanum?!?"

What ever happened to long manuals? I used to love reading about characters and weapons and what not, but now I get system requirements and how I should rest from playing every hour. Arcanum's is brilliant the way it's written.

I remember once passing time by reading game manuals as I waited for the electricity to come back on during a power cut. Now it's all brief information, such as the things you mentioned, whilst the more intuitive gamer is forced to sit through annoying in-game tutorials instead.

Yes, I often read them as well. The weapons of Max Payne, written on pages with coffee cup mug stains on them, or GTA's, written like a travel guide. It was a good way to pass time as a game installed. Now it's all so boring.

It went from feelies and awesome manual, accessories and extra stuff to awesome manual, and then it went to purely technical manual. -.-

Anybody catch the original Half-Life manual?
