Hokay, many things to address.

Minuos has the right of it. Mine wasn't an attempt to arouse, just to show what two of my favourite characters are like when the rest of the world isn't watching.

Puppy - I'd completely forgotten about that! *wince* The 'Fundamentals of Alchemy' world and the 'Chains' (tentative working title) world bear many similarities, but are different worlds. While I enjoyed Fundamentals of Alchemy, I think it's best left as an exercise in what I can do when under serious pressure.

Grakelin - I welcome critiques of all kinds! Especially well thought out and relevent ones. Unlike most tards on the internet, I don't write just for praise. I write because if I don't all this stuff builds up in my subconscious, and because writing is FUN. Just keep in mind that I'm Australian and submit to slightly different spelling conventions in most things...

Packersfan - If you really wanna write porn, can you at least please start your own thread for it?

 

You're writing for the right reasons, Xiao. Of all the writing I've ever done, I've shared perhaps a paragraph or two with other people. Keep it up.

On the note of what Grakelin said in ordinary sized font though, noticing the implications is simple, yes, but they're just implications, and the focus on them ends with the falling book (which is a very nice touch), so you receive little detail, and the story can go on without feeding unnecessary images of sex to the reader.

Ultimately...what I mean to say is that no one really wants to know that Packersfan's easily turned on, nor do people want to have their threads invaded by him. If someone does want those things, well...

Their problems run deep.

Xiao's point about starting a new thread is the right idea. Although, if you resort to calling people with something to say fuckers, when it's you who runs the risk by placing your writing online (thus at the mercy of opinion), you shouldn't bother in the first place.

 

But see, you're an established writer. By riding on your coat tales, I can give people shock boners (shock boners = money.) Trust me, it gets REALLY good. And this is shit that actually happened, non-fucking-fiction. It gets sexy. And bloody.

If by 'established writer' you mean 'won a couple of competitions in high school and refuses to put her pen down' then yeah, maybe you've got a point. The fact remains - this thread is not for badly-written porn. There are plenty of places on the internet you can find that.

 

I did a creative writing unit last year at uni, we were required to write either prose or poetry, I chose the prose side as I have never been a real poet. However we needed to write short stories of only one thousand words in length, I can tell you that was difficult because I become too detailed in my stories and always needed at least another thousand or so words.

What you have written is a rather nice piece, leaves much to the reader's own devices. Have you 'published' any other completed stories on the internet as I would like to have a little read myself.

Now for Packersfan30_3, I don't recall anyone wanted such a vulgar story, or another in fact in this thread. I'm not sure if you are either immature, a troll (immature), or lonely for attention. from my limited time here I can already tell that you won't be making friends with an attitude like the one you have been displaying.

 

So does that the next time NaNoWriMo rolls around we get to hear more of Elenor, Cliff, Taren and Noel?
Or will it be something new?

 

Zanza - I've got a Baldur's Gate II shortfic over on the forum at Pocket Plane, and a single very short fic for NWN2 at fanfiction.net under the penname Tolly. Most of my stuff stays firmly offline.

Puppy - I honestly dunno. I might not even have the time for the NaNo this year. *whimper* Taren and Noel may make a reappearance at some point, as they'd be very easy to tranfer to the 'Chains' world. Elly and Cliff are less easy to move, but I actually think diving much further into their lives would actually be quite disrespectful to them.

Believe it or not, Gwen and Kreis are NOT the focal characters of my new novel! They're a pretty important part of the supporting cast, though, and I enjoyed writing that little scene for them. They'll be back.

Hmmm... I might write more of these little scenes. Quite fun to write and a good way to keep my 'pen' (keyboard) in during the week.

All I can think is that Packersfan30_3 fails to understand the intention and construction of soft porn, fails to understand the general pointers within real *situations*, fails to understand the delicacy of transferring these situations into words...

And to Xiao: I do hope that we can swap pointers in writing one day. Any chance of knowing how to go about getting a book published?

 

Getting published is awkward no matter where you are. Basically speaking (and cutting corners in doing so) the most common way would be to write a full manuscript in standard formatting (size 12 courier new, double-spaced), and reading up on other layout points. Once you're happy with the manuscript you're given the real choices.

Send off with a cover letter, directly to publishers and cross your fingers. Or search out a literary agent, whilst having courtesy enough to read up on their career and find one of the lists that are publicized online to help writers avoid dodgy agents.

These are just things I've read about though. But most sources give the same info.

Alternatively you could self-publish, but that's probably the most complicated and expensive way to go. Regardless, I plan on working towards getting a novel published by September this year, so if all goes well and you're not in any real rush, I'll have word of my success (hopefully) and proper info by then.

EDIT: And yes, Packersfan fails.

Having only had short stories published as part of competitions, I'm really not the person to ask about publishing. (Although I've been seriously considering biting the metaphorical bullet and writing some stereotypical romantic short stories for magazines in order to bring in a little extra cash. Talk about desperation moves.)

I'd like to say he'll get the point eventually, Xiao, but I know he probably won't. Maybe if we ignore him, he'll go away. Like a child himself, or some form of desperate animal.
