Could someone give me a short explanation how to modify stats of items ? I don't want to make modules or complexe changes ONLY to make a few overpowered items (balanced sword !) in game less powerful (slower in case of balanced sword) and perhaps one or two firearms stronger (higher damage).

If you know how to hex edit, you'll do fine by downloading all the existing documentation on editing proto files (that store data for items). You can search the forums here for a few pointers. Theorel kindly shared some info on item prototypes (search the forum), as did Krupp. Proto files may be found in your Arcanum/data/proto directory, and the numbers they bear correspond to the description.mes file in the mes folder.

Navigate Terra Arcanum for more info.

EDIT: There is no overly easy way to do this.

Thank you for an answer, i will try. I already found, to my surprise, that Arcanum is not very moding friendly. I said "surprise" because there is the WorldEd.
For infinity engine games when i wanted to modify the stats of an item it took me ~10 minutes to find the info and download an editor and make all changes i wanted including changed descritpion.
Excellent game, easily one of my top 5 of cRPG but from technical/programming point of view this game is a total mess imho.

Mods weren't really a priority when it was made, so the files aren't user-friendly, and it adhered to Fallout-esque methods of creation. The game works well for what it is, and Drog is improving it for all of us. Modifying proto files isn't really that difficult once you know how, but problems can still be easily encountered.

Simply takes more time and a little dedication to modify than more recent games.
