DOES ANYONE ELSE BUT ME PLAY WITH MAGIC?! It seems like everyone else is just a gun slinger. I, personally, think the magic in Arcanum is awesome. For example, Quench Life. Kills the target outright unless it saves. If it does, it still does a huge amount of damage anyway! Oh, and this has really no relation to this subject but, I hate how there are schematics of bows like the envenomed bow but bow users can't even make it because I "lack the expertise", and I dont think that many techies go out of their way and make a bow for a follower like Raven anyway! That is why there should be no restriction on making bows.
I made few magic characters, which are specialist in different schools. IMHO magic has more advantages than tech, therefore is easier to play with. Even if you made the bow for Raven, she would have less critical hits and more misses. As you know her aptitude is more magical so what the purpose giving to her tech bow?
What are you kidding me? I think it's the exact opposite - everyone here is a magick user except for a few techies...personally, I prefer tech (more fun making your own gear, and cheaper too). I'm playing through with a couple of mages now, and they both have their advantages. All those bow schematics are for tech archers, just like the elven hunters bow and others are for magick archers. Why isn't there a schematic for arrows I want to know? You can find/learn schematics for every other type of "ammo" in the game, EXCEPT arrows. At 3 bucks each, they're not cheap either.
I am The Uber Mage player. Level 50 Half Elf Females rock. Chose Miracle Cure as my Background, w00t. Some serious, err, issues in the begining, but being able to maintain that many spells at once from the get go is quite fun
My level 50 Beat-with-an-ugly-stick Half-Orc would kick your arse  Hehehe, probably not actually. I only kept base constitution and willpower anyway. I did have 20 intelligence though (how many half-orcs can claim that?) Yeah, it all depends on the situation who is better than who. I bet you would have had a tough time in the Vendigroth Ruins, but I wouldn't know as I've never taken a mage that far. I just loved being able to rush headlong at the enemy and not care about who I was fighting, because I could take out any serious opposition in one turn. Each style of play has it's own advantages/disadvantages though. The thing that really stopped me being an elf or half-elf early on though, is that most of the portraits are really crappy. No offense to anyone here, but half the elves looked asian to me, and not like an elf at all. While some of the portraits are really good (and a funky idea, hats off to Troika), some are pretty bad as well. I suppose though, their game, their portraits. I couldn't have done any better.
Half-Elves don't look asian! I can tell, I'm asian after all. I have to agree about the post on making arrows tho. Arrows for Raven can get expensive!
Try a Female Half-Elf, who sold her soul I just started with one (only up to level 13), and so far it has been much easier to win battles than with the previous techies.
