Hey I was wondering how to make the ultimate warrior of my melee half-ogre in terms of attributes and gear. What is the best gear I can get and how do I get it? Once I have maxed dexterity, strength, willpower, melee/dodge, where should the rest of my points go? (in hit points?) Thanks I would really appreciate any help
Alright, I'll bite because I feel like geeking out. Gear: Weapon: Kryggird's Falchion, in the Void. Armor: Ogres don't get good armor, but large platemail is pretty good. Find it off Killian Drake's guards (I think that was his name) Shield: I'd go for the Flow Disruptor Shield off Sebastian. Boots: Enchanted War Boots but I think they're random. Otherwise plain ol' metal boots. Rings: Franklin's Ring of Virility gives you +2 Constitution. Beyond that take what you like; they're all magick and you're aptitude neutral. Helm: Ehh. Arcane Helmet if you want to spend a Fate Point to snag it off Stringy Pete. Attributes: What the hell are you doing developing Willpower if you want to be straight melee? HP is what makes you more invulnerable than invulnerable, yeah. Of course, you can also go for Charisma and Persuasion to get some quests and skip others, but... If you want to develop Willpower, you might as well go fighter-mage and get some Temporal (gentlemen, I give you Tempus Fugit). In which case, skip the platemail and go for leather, get a Shield of Force off Gideon Laier instead of a Flow Disruptor, and you have more use for rings.
Willpower raises magic resistance, but with the AI being as bad as it is the enemy hardly ever casts spells on you anyway.
I'd suggest constitution instead of HP. and if u have maxed DX, ST, WP, CN, dodge and melee, either something from the thieving department or some magic. with maxed WP and CN u can keep a familiar around at all times. for the gear - avoid magick melee weapons, they require high magick attitude to be fully functional. I've no idea how those weapons with random spells on them behave and if any spell is worth it. if u prefer tech, try those found schematics.
WHY WOULD YOU EVER WANT TO KEEP A FAMILLIAR? No, seriously, go for magic weapons. Magic fighters are the best in Arcanum. Nothing says ownage like a well placed disintegrate or tempus fugit + haste. High con only buys you poison resistance, so screw it in favour of spells. One could argue that increased fatigue and fatigue reg is a good thing, but my response to that is keeping an arcane staff around, as well as a load of potions. With maxed magic apt, you will be more powerful than any technologist could ever hope to be.
Ahhh my doubts with willpower have been confirmed. In terms of rings I bought two fated rings from Barach's Magerium, is the crit chance cumulative? I thought they seemed better than virility. Also, I want to get as many quests as possible, so I put one point in intelligence... should I put points into persuasion or anything else? I've restarted the game many times but this round I want to see it through and hopefully hit the level cap! ps. Since half-ogres miss out on a lot of regular armor, would a half-orc actually be stronger end-game? pss Oh and re: the falchion sword, you only get this near the end I'm guessing in the Void, so what would be the best early weapon I can get? For some reason the katana I bought makes my attack rating lower than unarmed. Also bought a dagger of speed purely to abuse the xp hit system lol I WANT A FAST WEAPON ... worth putting 2 points in smithing for balanced sword?
Well, since you're a power gamer I don't mind spoiling this early game bit, but you have the opporunity to gain a follower with the smithing discipline. Since balanced sword isn't very high up on the tech ladder it wouldn't take you very long to get him to a level where he could make it for you and you could be rid of him. From a strictly power gaming standpoint, I think that would be far better than sinking Character Points into something you would only use once.
Sword of Baltar, stolen off Lianna Del Par. Persuasion...uhh...Persuasion gets you a few quests but it's mainly good for avoiding them. I get a dot of persuasion to double-dip the Lukan quest, though.
Had a cool idea, what if you could get your characters damage resistance to 100? I wonder if it's possible to become physically immune like you could with monk in BG2 iirc. The toughness background and half-ogre racial adds 20 damage resistance already.
kk^ Thanks for everyones help, I'm using sword of Baltar and having a lot of fun I saw the filament sword and was wondering if it was possibly better. Also still wondering if fated rings +5 critical chance is cumulative if two are equipped. In terms of armor, is there any better armor than the large basic plate which you don't get until Killian Drake? Gamebanshee lists large elite platemail as existing, I wonder how to get that. UPDATE: Large basic plate randomly appeared in Xer'ad's Magick Armoury in Tarant at lvl 30 something
By constructing it, so screw that. Go for large arcane leather, it's pretty badass. As for your weapon, you really should go for the Bangellian Scourge as soon as you find it. It's a marvellous weapon.
Well I'm back I have maxed my half-ogre Jotun at level 50 with 34 character points to spend (most likely in fatigue/hit points). What about investing in points to construct better armor than my platemail? I was raised in the pits though so my intelligence stands at one. I'm going to do the altars quest now for Velorien's final blessing. Wanting to get the best possible gear pre-void. I just got the Bangellian Scourge, it makes my attacking rating 34 instead of 32 with Baltar but I'm not sure it's better. Still wondering if 2 fated rings give cumulative crit bonus, and if wearing the Finger of Mannox also adds to this. Uh oh I think Large Mystic Leather Armor (from Nasrudin's tomb area) which I sold is stronger than large basic plate! Noooo!! Any advice on best gear and maxing would be really appreciated My main query is what is the best half-ogre armor!
Theres a suit of Large Arcane Leather Armour in a chest in Caladon castle in a room that has 9 other chests arranged in a large sqaure pattern. Beware you will be attacked on sight for going into the private areas of the castle and all of Caladon may end up hating you. Otherwise just go the the wise woman repeatedly until she has it.
Whoa thanks Vorak that's awesome, you are a House of Lords legend! Now if only I could make Vendigrothian war gauntlets... where is the schematic for them? I have a strong suspicion I may have sold the Vendigrothian leather gauntlets! Are there any gloves superior to these gauntlets? Oh and I killed Stringy Pete for his helm and then ran off HAHAHA I can just see myself and Virgil fleeing on a dinghy from a pack of enraged skeleton sailors
