Game Options from starting menu not showing up

Hey all.

Just joined to ask some Qs (recently dug out my Arcanum disks again!):

When starting up Arcanum and going to "Options", none of the descriptive text shows up. Is there some general video error causing this?

Or, if it is local to the options menu, maybe some kind soul could tell me what the options/slider bars represent. (*** to seperate options on same row)

Game:
(Arcanum/V) = world? *** On/Off = ???
Easy/Med/Hard = difficulty *** On/Off = ???
On/Off = ??? *** On/Off = ???
Turn/Real/etc = combat mode *** On/Off = ???

Video
??? ***** ???
???
Never/Min/Verbose = combat messages?
???

Sound
???
???
???

Well to make it simple I'll give you these three screenshots. However, because of my polish version, I translated it from polish myself and if I didn't tranlsate something precisely somewhere, or if something is not clear, feel free to ask.

Though... I must have hit my head too much as a kid, because I just installed the patch and the full-screen mode has the menu options show up.
