yes i know. I've gotten him before. But when I speak to him there is no option about setting Gar free or buying him. I have 19 IN, 20 CH and max in persuade.

First you find out that Gar is playing dumb. Even though I use quotes, this isn't the exact conversation.

Your option with Parnell> "I'd like to talk to you about Gar the human."
    "What... what do you mean!?"
    >"I think Tarant takes a dim view on human slavery."

Just don't answer that Gar told you he was human.

    PLANTING ITEMS:
There is one quest where you have to plant items. I agree that using poison armor (baneful gauntlets?) is a good tactic. Unfortunately, using fatigue armor doesn't let you pickpocket any better when they're unconscious.

    FOLLOWER SKILLS:
One of the most absurd things is telling Virgil to wait with bandages in his inventory. If I get hurt he runs across the map to find me (even if I'm sneaking into someone's safe). I walked to the entrance to the spot-traps-quest castle and I hit a trap. Virgil ran across the minefield to try to bandage me. How stupid!

ok last question. As what I've noticed you dont get xp from anything but compliting quests (incuding thieves underground "quests") and killing. In Fallout you get xp from a successful used skill (incuding the speak skill, weapon skill when you killed someone/something)
Is there a mod to Arcanum that gives you those xp? It's much harder to get levels if you spend points on speech (persuade, BE and CH) and a little on thief skills (well... you get backstab)

    re: quest experience

Each quest is defined with level for experience points and alignment shift (if any). Dialogs with NPCs can do this too. So in solving a quest during dialog you get the alignment adjust +- whatever the .dlg file gives you and the experience points + any xp in the .dlg file of that character.

I haven't seen too many of the latter, say if your character had high IN and jumped several dialog options because you "figured it out." Perhaps Ivory/Swift and the Chief Inspector? It doesn't even have to be tied in with completing a quest. Any line of dialog could have xp, say when you gain a reputation, or submit a Thieves Guild item from your rumors. But they won't give you the quest-complete sound to clue you in.
