There's a couple of exploits in the game where you can get a bunch of money. One of them is selling the real Stillwater Pelt to HT Parnell. There's a dialogue loop where you can keep selling it to him over and over again for $2000 a pop.

If you don't want to be lame like that, you can rip off shopkeepers and sell their own stuff back to them. Doing this repeatedly is also lame, but doing it once or twice is alright in my book.

 

you can also get 20000 for killing the king of Caladon(but beware becasue then the whole town will attack u)i think it is 20000
