there are some ways

1. sell the item, then buy it back.*
2. get a scroll identify
3. learn the spell identify**

*steal it back is an other option, as well as gamble for it.

**its the highest level spell in its school, so you can't really get it quick(unless you start out as an onlychild, and concentrates on getting just that spell.

The full game will have NPCs who can do your identifying as well, only that this was not included in the demo.

and identifcation always cost 100 gold.

Actually, I got the name from the lead singer of the Offspring a LONG time ago.. like when Smash came out. But as the quality of their albums declined, so did my love of the band.. and now I really hate their music. I should really get a different name.
