    It appears that once you leave the Isle of Despair you cannont get back. So, if you forgot to trade the collector for the chassis before you left, is there any way to get it?

    unless you have teleprot spell,i dont think there is any way you can get it back
    i tried to use my ship to get there,but it doesnt have the isle of despair option. so no if your a techno-weenie you cant get it back.

    I'm thinking that there's no "legal" way to obtain the item. Are there any "illegal" ways to get it? Like, multiplayer trades or an inventory editor?

    You will get 2 or 3 more in Vendigroth ruins later in the game. You will also have better schematic to go with it. But if you're planning to use Bodwyck gun, then better forget it.
