how to use dynamite

I put it in a quick slot, then use it from there. My character walks to where I select, places the tnt on the ground and then watches the never ending wick just burn and burn. I couldn't find anything in the manual that says how you are actually supposed to detonate the dynamite. any help would be great.

Throw the dynamite or put it somewhere placeable then wait for it to explode.

Is it possible to place some dynamite in someones pocket by pickpocket. I never tried because I suck at Pickpocket. I remember in Fallout that the game chrashed everytime I tried it on someone.

Well, I plant dynamite on a door or something and it usually explodes in 5-10 seconds, I havent tried it on an NPC, I dont think they will explode tho because you will be basically giving them a stick of dynamite

I used dynamite in the Schuyler's basement on those zombies. All I had to do was click the dynamite on a place on the screen and 5-10 seconds later it exploded. Why don't your character have to walk to the point to place dynamite? I mean, I was on one side of the room and I clicked where I wanted the dynamite planted, and then, BOOM!!!!!! Is this realistic? I didn't THROW it.....
