Hello everyone. I am starting arcanum for the first time. Pretty darned amazing rpg I never heard of until i found this site. I can't believe i missed its release 5 years ago. I installed the game first on my gf's computer with no problems, everything worked fine. When i installed it on my computer i found that i couldnt interact with my inventory items by right-clicking on them. i.e. can't open letters, newspapers, right-click buy shop items. Is there another way via keyboard to interact with these items ? Both computers have winxp pro installed with sp2 on both. My gf's comp has an older ati rage vid card and i have an ati 9200se. thank you for your time. another thing i just noticed on my machine is that i cant get the game to start in full screen mode. i get a cant find dll error. I have also reinstalled the game twice now with no change to either of my problems.
You can read letters and use items by adding them to the quick-key bar, or by dragging them to the "use" toggle in the inventory screen. I don't know why the other problem appears. You should seek out TongsYaBass. He's the forum modder, kind of. And welcome to Terra-Arcanum. Don't fuck with the elders or the admins, double post or gravedig and everything will be just fine. This is a quite old subject, and before you post in these forums you should search for them. And that's the lot. Enjoy your stay.
Nope, to late man, they'll string ya up for this... or not. 8) Anyways, make sure you've got the patch 1.0.7.4 from sierra.com and install it into the arcanum directory. That should solve the .dll error, as well as the full screen problem.
hehe ok i would reluctantly accept the avatar. I have been searching around for clues as to the cause of my problems and i have found it to be most likely a patch problem. For some reason i don't think the patch is taking hold. Ever heard of that before ? How can i tell if it has been installed. I read that even though i may see the version number it may not necessarily be installed.
Try reinstalling it, and make sure the default directory is Arcanum,and not 'documents and settings', or whatever. Not sure if it puts the version number anywhere?... Check the readme for what its supposed to fix, and verify it works. The big clue of course will be a working version. Get your patchhere
Right clicking to use items and full screen mode is only available with the patch so your patch is definitely not installed properly. Simplest solution to dll problems is just to re-install, preferably in a new directory. Arcanum generates a bunch of files as you use it. Re-installing Arcanum in the same directory won't get rid of all of these generated files and this can cause problems to persist. If you completely delete your old Arcanum (uninstall and then delete the remaining directories) and you still get the problem with your new install then you've probably got a scratched CD.
thanks very much for your help guys. For some reason when i did a reinstall the sierra folder from the previous install stayed on C drive and without me noticing the fresh install went to my D drive. When i applied the patch it installed itself to the default C install but the exe short cut pointed to the new install (D) which had no patch. Thanks again.
