I decided to dust off Arcanum and play through it again. I've played through it once with a melee guy and got pretty far with a mage before I quit playing it. I'm playing with a mage now and for some reason a white light is following Virgil everywhere he goes at all times.

This is before he leaves for Caladon. I took every piece of equipment off him just to see if it was a result of anything he was wearing, but it still followed him around in his boxers, lol. It looks kind of like a will-o-wisp but it stays on him at all times. I don't remember the light being on him during the other times I played through. I don't think it was there when I started this game, but I don't remember exactly where it happened, but it's permanent, because it was on him early on in the game, and it was there when I finished it.

I did a search but all I found were mostly the standard "Where is Virgil?" posts after he leaves for Caladon.

Also, now the light seems to have evolved into a full force-field. There's still a light on him, but now there's like a really faint barrier around him.

Anyone know what this light is or how it got there?

Before you took off his equipment, was he carrying a lantern? Sometimes the lantern won't work when you're carrying it and other times it will work when you don't have it.

[Edit: First post. Welcome to HoL. :) Maybe if you narrowed down your search to the Hints and Tips forum next time? Otherwise you'll get hundreds of entries matching Virgil. And I supposed you're patched, but if you're not, you can download the latest patch from the Downloads section.]

Yeah I'm patched. Thanks for the reply. I don't think Virgil has a lantern, but you say sometimes lantern's work even when you don't have them equipped? I know Arcanum is kind of buggy, and Virgil has an annoying habit of picking up random items off the ground, so it's hard to tell.

    Thanks again.

This fenomena has occured for me, too. Was he, by any chance, healing something at the time you noticed the light? The light from the minor heal spell would do it. It has happened several times for me, too...

That EXACT same thing has also happened to me, and yes it is from Minor Healing. It usually happens when he heals many times consecutively. Some sorta bug, but it seems to disappear after a while.

Yeah that's probably what it is, the graphic from his healing spell. It stays on him constantly though, must be some kind of weird bug.

Well, as long as it doesn´t interrupt gameplay, it´s no big deal. Nothing to worry about.

Yes, this happened to me too, after healing. Now I sometimes hope of getting it, it makes virgil much easier to pick out in a group when fighting real-time.

I usually don´t battle in real-time. I prefer shooters instead of fighters or mages. And when you got the Looking glass rifle, you prefer the turn-based combat. I assure you.

But you are right about him being easier to pick from the group, and sometimes he actually works as a light in dark caverns and stuff.
    I´d say it´s a usefull bugg...

I prefer the entire game in real time, it's much faster and makes me feel more involved. The LGR rocks in real time.

I'm a weenie and always switch. Real time is my default, but if more than one monster shows up then its turn based time (space bar space bar space bar space)

Well, I DO battle in real-time when I play a meele character, or a mage. They have the upper hand when playing in real-time. Shooters doesn´t.

Sure shooters do, I can drop eight creatures before they even get within melee. It just takes skill to play any character in real time, I don't think it's really honest to say one is better than the other when it comes down to who is playing really.

I´m not saying I CAN´T play in real-time, I just prefer the turn based when it comes to shooters.
