Swords break easy if used to his something hard. If you run out of bullets you are screwed. Man its been awhile since I have been here.
i think its better to decide between magick and tech (thats what the game based on) the strongest magick is Disintegrate i think (i never palyed some char who used any magick expect from minor healing) but the LookingGlassRifle roxx (and kills all magick)really also my old trusty fine revolver if you choose between gun s and swords you have to choose between ranged-tech (guns) or mellee magick/tech (swords) if you choose swords/melee you ve to choose between magick swords or tech swords or maybe any other kind of mellee weapon (axe dagger what ever) thats what the game based on you ve to make decisions magick/tech good/bad melee/ranged lone ranger/great party beauty/ugly supid/intelligence strong/weak... everthing has advantages and disadvantages at least you cant say one way is better than the other that works for a moment maybe but not for the game [ This Message was edited by: tarin on 2001-09-24 11:57 ]
i mean char points cuz you have spend some in dex and strenght for doing some mellee damage then you need some for perception to use firearms effective and you ve to max out dodge mellee and firearms i think you need 30 points (you get 64 in the hohle the game) thats what i say you have to make decisions if you want to be a mage and a tech or a mellee fighter and a gunslinger you can but you will never become very strong in each turnbase - i never played turnbase (mebbee in some years)
Another great thing about melee weapons... After much debate, I chose to go with melee weapons over firearms. One reason is that melee weapons are usable by both tech and magick characters. So there's a certain amount of flexibility in character creation when choosing melee. If you go tech, you get to build some cool weapons like the pyrotechnic axe or the charged sword. If you go magick, some of the magick weapons come with massive damage bonuses (provided you have the required level of magickal aptitude).
Way to much emphasis on meele in this game... So I guess that it is sword over guns anyday. Sides later in the game the better swords really do damage whereas the guns seem to loose their steam. And ammo... where the heck do you do you get enough in the first place.
The game seems unbalanced in favor of melee. Melee weapons do more damage than firearms at all phases of the game. This would be okay, except most enemies are in melee range after their first turn. So, if you want an easy game, go melee all the way. If you want a challenging game, go firearms all the way... but the game is almost unplayable if you don't get at least 1 rank of Melee too! I try to make non-Melee characters, but I keep finding myself going back to getting Melee 3 and training for Expert. To be fair, I also do this for Persuasion on most of my characters. This means I get to pick, oh, 2-3 other skills/techs/magicks to max out on before I hit level...
well if ur a melee guy use turn base often, but when ur a gunslinger use realtime often. this two kinds of combat mode also depends on the weapons ur holding, its good to use turn base if ur fast enough while in the other hand, if ur slow go to real time and do the good old "hit and run"..."shoot and run maybe
i play always real time with an helf-elf/female gunslinger and she s doing a good job no running just shooting once you re a firearm master you re able to bring everything down even with a revovler but LGR roxx also some other guns for example handcanon, long range pistol, and fine revolver they do not that hig damage but you can use the flow disruptor (+40MR +30AC) the best shield for tech i think if you choos rifiles the tesla gun (10-70 ED) the LGR (range 25) and the rifeled canon (ignores all resistances) are really usefull because of there stats when you re a gunsinger you ve for every situation a special weapon thats great maybe the game favors melee but melee is boring isn t it ?
Ranged weapons suck because... Well if you character is not high level enough you end doing a lot of friendly fire. Your pals are even worse so stay off the guns and bows till you are at least a master. I do however admit that there are advantages when done is this manner. Using a ranged weapon when sneaking really is useful against large numbers of low level enemies. Sneak, toss weapon till enemy is dead, exit combat mode, re-enter combat mode and kill the next ememy... they won't even know u are there till they all are dead... hee hee.
Guns have always seemed the easyist way out of things to me. I would always use a sword/ axe if there was a choice. I thing that i is harder to win this way. But i some ways it is easyer. But give me a sword any day. Tanis
