Ok figured I'd try here cause well this is a gaming forum and by default some lawyers play games right? And deal with the legal aspects of video games. Anyhow, the scenario. I'm currently an amateur designger of an online rpg referred to as the "Star Wars Combine" And right now myself and one other member are trying in our spare time to develop a combat system for this game. Well the person who "owns" the game has been known to be a real jackass and screw people over, namely me on several occasions. I've searched for some legal standing that he might have to steal this design that we've worked on. And also searched for what legs I have to stand on as the creator if you will of the RPG combat system, all the formula's and overall design and what have you. Any help would be awesome, yeah I know this isn't the best place for this, if this is fruitless, or if I don't hear from anyone really worth hearing from, I'll be getting some real legal counseling. But I was wondering if anyone knew, I'm working hard at this hoping that this will be somewhat of a springboard for me to work in the creation of RPG's when I get out of college. Yes Tim Cain maybe in 5 years you'll get a job app from me begging for a job Oh, if youve got questions bout the game or just random shit you want to scream and flame at me, feel free
First of all; you can make anything you want, aslong as it for private use (unless its illegal material. eg. child porn). Now I'm not a lawyer, but i think i remember reading something about this, and basically that as long as you don't publish "his" game, but only as a mod people add them selves, you can do what you want. just make sure to make a loophole-less installation agreement.
