I've never seen the Acid Gun, Charged Accelerator Gun, Pyrotechnic Gun, Long Range Pistol, or Tranquilizer Gun schematics anywhere. Can anyone locate any of them? The best gun I've found is the Tesla Gun, but I'd rather have one that required less strength and/or didn't require a full degree in a seperate discipline to make. Also, do any of the guns ever match up to the power of the Pyrotechnic Axe, or should I just suck it up and make a melee fighter.
The gun schematics in question can only be had from the weaponsmith in Tarant afaik. The Tesla gun is the best gun alternative in my opinion to the Pyrotechnic Axe. For some reason melee seems A lot better than gunfighting. I mean if/when an enemy reaches you, you´re almost certain to get killed if using guns and not having good followers. Maybe it´s different if using realtime, but I wouldn´t know as I just LOVE turnbased.
If you want to have these Schematics then I guess... That you are in for a LLLLOOOONNNNNGGGGG wait. It isn't easy to to get these as they are rather random and you have to be a high level character. BTW just a pointer, don't try to level up to quickly as then you are stuck with followers that cannot gain any more exp. 50 cap sucks as then nobody else gets any more exp pts. Another way to get these schem is to cheat... look for the item hack in this site and that file. Make sure that you keep the mes extension for that file and place it in the datarules directory.
Urg. Is there actually supposed to be a "rules" folder under data, because there isn't; though I can obviously make one. The hacks don't seem to work for me (either this one or the level scheme alteration), but I could just be doing something stupid. As far as guns are concerned, I prefer them simply from an aesthetic perspective, but even the tesla gun is nothing compared to the pyro axe. One of my first characters had a T-gun, 4/5 Firearms skill and an entourage of fighters with pyro axes. Those things are ridiculously overpowered for how easy they are to get ahold of. The only downside was when Virgil kept blowing himself up on critical misses. I started that one over when I got sick of my followers doing all the damage before I got a chance to get more than one or two shots in. I was hoping to play an evil gunslinger with an army of arachnids and autonomatons for backup.
Just do this.... make the rules folder in the data folder and place that file from the hack section. Make sure that the exention is mes or whatever *****_mes change it to ******.mes and place that in the rules section. Then it is a matter of waiting for the stores to restock their inventory i guess that happens once a day or whatever and viola. Pyo axe good but there are much better weapons in the game...
Thanks, I think I see what I was doing wrong. And I'm sure there are better weapons than the pyro axe somewhere in the game, but you can get ahold of them practically for free by level 6 or so, and they remain the best thing in the game that I could find all the way up to the dark elf village. If there's an unequivical best tech weapon in the game, what disciplines would I need to have studied to get it? And does it use throwing, melee, or firearms? [ This Message was edited by: Zarathustra on 2001-09-22 17:36 ]
Best weapon... eh.... Depends on your playing style but the game does favour magic users over Tech. Why because the tech stuff is hard to come by and the gameplay is more suited to melee than anything else. Basically you should read the previous thread about the best weapons in the game...
In the novel the Three Muskteer they depenced more on their sword fighting skill than on their musket which where special make as match set so their where more accurate than the average mucket.
Charles... what the heck??? Dude what was it you said that has anything to do with this thread??? You lost me somewhere... eh somewhere... waaaayyyy back in the begining.
The Royal Muckteer where the most elite unit of firearm train toop of they time an they depend more on their sword when the fighting that close and personal. It take anywhere between one and two minutes to reload any flintlock firearm. This game wasnot meant to be than remake of Fallout 1 and 2. It was meant to reflect than flintlock and steamengine eras. Most military firearm in this peroid of history have no sight on then as gunpowder make alots of smoke when use in firearm, so in big battle after both side fire one or two round there was so much smoke that you couldnot see anything clear enough that than sight would have being useful.
Pyrotechnic Axe...hogwash! poppycock! The best guns IMO are Tesla Gun, and the Blade Launcher. Because of the damage range, the BL usually does consistantly better. I agree that the Pyrotechnic axe is FAR too powerful. Having Sogg for a long time, he eventually got his strength to 20 and he was doing hits for EIGHTY HP consistantly! (Not citical hits). That made me mad, as at the time I had a max of 20 Str (Human) and Army Training, with the Arcane Great Sword, and I could only hit with a max of maybe 50 (not including crits). My magickal aptitude was at 100 as well. With the time and danger involved in finding the Arcane items, they should turn you into a GOD. The AGS should be something like 15-40 (+30). The Arcane Platemail was sufficient enough to keep me from hardly getting damaged (maybe a bludgeoner would hit me for more than 5hp).
yo i cant get the damn hack to work ive placed the invensource.mes file into the datarules folder and i still cant get it to work
The Three Musketeers had flintlock pistols and muskets. Muskets have nothing to do with this game, and flintlock pistols are primitive weapons used only in a pinch. By the time gun technology gets to the revolver and true rifle, they should be moderately accurate and powerful. And in the storyline, they're portrayed as this incredible weapon (untrained marksman with guns wiped out the legendary Dragon Knights). So they should at least be a viable option. Which isn't to say that they aren't. After cheating a character to grab the various schematics, I'm sad to say that there probably isn't a better gun than the T-gun, unless you get it in Vendrigoth or something. In addition to the T-gun, the flamethrower, blade blaster, and long range pistol all have their advantages if you don't want to get the full degree in electricity. The tranquilizer gun may be an overlooked weapon that has some potential. It worked real well on the guards and citzenry of Tarant: knock them out with one (or occasionally two) shots, than kick them to death at your own leisure. Not sure how effective it would be on a Seething Mass, but fun, fun, fun nonetheless.
In mass battle they still have the problem with gunpowder smoke untril smokeless powder was invent. The United State Military was the last Nation to give up gunpowder. In the war of 1898 we lost many troop to sniper fire when the Spandier troop spoter our troop when they fired they gunpowder weapon by the smoke. While the Spaindier troop where almost inviblie with they smokeless powder. I believe Troika want to get away from Fallout type game where basely you use guns. I have than Roleplaying game Call Sword & Glory which take place on than world call Tekumel. Copper is than uncommon metal and iron so rare that it worth many time it weight in gold. Than iron weapon is 20 time to 1000 time the cost of chilen hide(with the harden of soft iron with 1/8 of iron weight} or bronze weapon. Someone discover gunpowder many time in this planet history but than low level magic user can cast than fireball or magic missile spell which can do more damage than a gun. Than gun would have to metal part than an metal barrel to work.
Okay, now you're just typing to hear your own keyboard. As far as Troika not wanting "another Fallout", of course I don't expect a Turbo Plasma Rifle capable of firing five lethal shots in a round. But I think guns should be comparable to melee in terms of damage. The upside being increased range, the downside being the need for ammo and CPs spent in otherwise useless areas (gunsmithy and perception) to get them.
if that is the case as magic being better than why did Dernholm get their asses kicked? no help from mages? If anyone would Watch Princess Mononoke he/she would know how technology works over beliefs
The Swords & Glory role playing in their history section said gunpowder was discover 2 or 3 time in their past but was never use as their socierty didnot need gunpowder as their either use magic of slaves to do the work. Their do have tech-magic device from their past as than techonlogy advance socierty before the solar system was move into another dimenion where magic was possible and their societry went into than dark age which their sage figure out last 250,000 year before than stable civilation devolp. When I play fantasy roleplaying game or run I donot allow any form of guns as their ruin the game.
