Newbie question - where do i find the dog?

Ive heard its a random event walkin but ive walked b/w tarant and shrouded hills and dernholm a few times and nothin , sierra board mentioned somethin about getting him at lvl 3??? any help would be appreciated as im level 10 now and useless magnus wont rejoin my party after waiting , i say you can stop waiting , but his portrait not rejoin and he just says is there anything else? ill e on my way . =/

 

If you go to Ashbury run really quickly to the Inn where you should see a Gnome kicking a dog. Be quick or else he'll kill him! Talk to the Gnome and find some way of stopping him. The dog will automatically join you and starts at level 12.

went to the tavern at ashbury , one gnome but no dog , he just wanted to bet 500 coins on a question =( am i looking in the right place?

 

he's outside, standing west of the INN. No, not the tavern- the INN. I think.
Three ways to find Ashbury- search the coastline near the Isle of Despair, search the WHeel Clan Mines and return to Bates, who'll tell you where it is, or take a train from Tarant. Yay!!!

damn i just cant find that dog! the only gnome wandering the streets of ashbury was a generic tell me about gilbert bates kinda villager =(
