Same genre, but your just naming the bands that werent political in any extreme sort of way. (No matter what Rollingstoned says about the Clash, they were not political in any meaningful way. I mean come on, before i got into punk i knew them best for rock the casbah, and now i don't know them for anything.)

but why does a punk band have to be political to be good? to me, the whole point of punk has always been to not care about anything, including politics.

Punk is, in my expierience, a group of people getting together and playing like hell, usually it sounds like shit, but it's music that helps them unwind, and it's good to dance (mosh most often) to. I mean I'm sitting here listening to Tupac:Changes. But in a few minutes I'll be listening to Rob Zombie or something. Music is music. Most of it is to send a music, but the punk that I like, the punk that I truly think is good, is that shitty, screaming punk. The stuff that nobody in their right mind would listen to on cd, but live? live your gonna dance until you can't stand. (by dance I mean mosh, by the way) I personally dislike listening to punk bands on Cd, cause it's just not the same thing. Oh, and Sleek, I always thought of HKS as a *rock* band, not punk. though it could be just the way thier recordings sound. Rosenshyne, again I agree with you. A punk band shouldn't be good because it's political, it should be good because you like the music. The message should come second.

    HKS?

As far as I'm concerned punk started with politics (the sex pistols etc, all those early english bands were heavily political) and punk has always closely tied itself to an extremely millitantly liberal world view. Therefore punk is at least partly about politics, and being at least partly anti-social.

Have a look at Political Compass. Click 'Take the Test'...my results were akin with Jean Chretien (-2.25, -2)...is that a good thing or a bad thing, Canadians? I always considered myself more authoritarian than that, but I suppose I'm to some degree left at heart. Anyway, take-a the test, post your results.

(nearly) Back on topic...I'm trying to expand my limited musical taste, can anyone suggest what Radiohead I should download?

My results were similar to Nelson Mandela. Hmmm...
Hey, Wolf, why does your sig say the opposite of what it used to? Or did someone else change it?

    1st time

    Economic Left/Right: -2.38
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.87

    2nd time

    Economic Left/Right: 0.25
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.08

There's a problem with that test though - the same 4 options each time, and my answers to some of the questions didn't really match the answers available. Especially some of the ones concerning justice - the questions only had black and white answers but dammit, I like the grey area sometimes.

According to the site, they're trying to force people into a decision - a lot of people share your view...I had to really think about what I wanted to put down, since I tread the middle ground most of the time.

On the Radiohead front, should I buy OK Computer or Hail to the Thief?

Anyway, I'm going to compile all the results into a topic later...

I was kind of amazed by where I stood, since I love guns, though I do hate hunting... well, here's where I stand. I'm fairly close to Dalai Lama. Can somebody give me a brief 1,2 on who he/she is?

The Dalai Lama is more of a title than a person - each one is supposed to be a re-incarnation of the last: the current one, Tenzin Gyatso (sp?) is the 14th, I think. Could be 13th...anyway, the Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of Buddhism, in vague terms. The present one is pretty much the figurehead for the campaign to free Tibet. I can't remember much else, but I went to hear him speak when he toured Australia.

    In short:

Heh, seems that I was rather close to people like Gandhi and Dalai Lama. :)

    Peace man!
