It is the first time that I have completed the Iron Clan quest.- before that I have somehow overlooked it. The Iron Clan Hammer seems like an awesome weapon, and I am hesitating whether to give it to Magnus instead of a Pyro axe. If you have used both- which one you find to be the best?
I haven't done a breakdown for this like you did for the best guns (props, BTW), but I'd say that, though I believe that dmg per round may generally be higher with the pyro axe, the hammer has 2 advantages, only one of which is really tanglible. That is that the hammer ignores fire resistance, and in the late game, you meet up with a reasonable amount of that. Without its fire damage, the pyro axe is nothing special. Also, there's the cool factor. First, you worked so hard to finish that quest, you might as well reap all the benefits. The hammer is unique. The axe is not. Also, well *spoiler* from a role playing perspective, Magnus is the last living scion of the Iron Clan, so it's just awesome to have him him use it. Goes with his gauntlets and bracelet, you know. And if you don't restore Loghaire to the throne, you get that best of endings. With that ending, it's kind of cool to think that he was using a symbol of his sovereignty to kick ass and save the world.
Good points, all of them. I guess Magnus gets a new toy. Two toys, actually. Shame my own character is not a dwarf this time, I'd love to try both the armor and the hammer myself.
I'd say it would be a toss up based on situation. Hammer would quite happily devour the fire elementals in the pit of fire an bangellian deeps. However, it would be damaged. Axe would be good against ore goloms which are very prevelant in Gorgoth Pass, but it would be damaged. Other side of that is that while you can repair both, both are techy, only one you can replace. Use which ever you get the better damage off of, but if you use the hammer, be ready to switch it out for something you can replace easier.
Pyro Axes don't get damaged except by clumsiness of the user. I've used them to chop up ore golems all over the place and routinely wait until i have them to use in the BC mines for just this purpose because they don't get torn up like other weapons. Interestingly, I found that Virgil does much better with the hammer than Magnus does and he seems to prefer it to almost any other weapon you offer him. Magnus seems to prefer the Pyro Axe and does quite well with it, so I left him with one and gave the hammer to Virgil.
I may be wrong, but I really don't think the Iron Clan Hammer is damaged by anything except crit misses. Isn't Virgil's strength too low for the hammer?
Here's an ideal Magnus. Weapon:Iron Clan Hammer Hands:Mysterious Dwarven Gauntlets Armor:Iron Clan Armor Head:Miner's Helmet Ring 1:Charged Ring Ring 2:Charged Ring Boots:Iron Boots Shield:Flow Disrupter Shield For the neck just give him any none magical necklace e.g. Ruby Necklace, or none. (DON'T give him the Finger of Mannox. This is much better on your character) Also, have Loghaire when you enter the Iron Mines, and there is a very intresting talk betwwen Magnus and Loghaire. He makes Magnus the King of the Iron Clan. But as labyrinthian said, if you can't get him back to the throne. Make sure you get Magnus to find the clan. Then you get the second best ending.
He should. The Hammer's MSR requirement is ST 10, just like the pyro axe. Virgil's ST never goes higher then 9. So he CAN use the hammer, but only without a shield.
I miss sumthin in this quest. I just have to go with Magnus and complete the "Durin's stone quest"? That's all? And then happy end?
this quest influences the end sequence, but only if you do the good ending. Its really great to know that, because of you, A dwarf comes out of hiding, to be king of his clan once again, and THEN to go on to make someone head of a legendary clan.... well
