Apparently, in the 1.0.7.4. they have changed the way you get the location about Stringy Pete's cove. You don't meet the good ol' captain Teach anymore. Instead, you meet some old drunkard, Salty Seadric(sp?), who has a map with the location on his person. That means I have to steal it- and I don't have pick pocket. Here goes a fate point. Damn.
Generally, I'm not sure if I like all the changes they had done. They have mostly rebalanced the firearms. Weakened the Looking Glass Rifle (probably makes sense in a way, but its so frustrating that it is now weaker than the Hand Cannon) made the Hand Cannon a decent weapon (quite helpful, but renders the Sharpshooter's Pistol not worth stealing), did some strange damage correction for Bronwyck's gun (-5FD,+5ED, but the speed is the same lousy 11). Oh and a repeater rifle is now faster than any revolver, practically a Mech gun for poor. High Velocity Pistol, the one weapon that needed correction BADLY, didn't get any, and is still not worth the parts its made of. I am yet to find the schematics for a Pyro gun, but I suspect it is also as bad as it was. Elven Hunter Bows- damage 1-10 is a plain mockery, is it not? You can as well not bother identifying them.

Uh, I don't think you even have to steal it Solaris. I might remember things wrong here, but I believe you only have to keep pouring alcohol down his throat to get the location revealed.

If you still have the save, load up and try with different dialog options. You might want to keep that fate point. :)

Hmm? Unless I force the cove early, I always get Pete's Cove marked by Teach. With the patch.

Yes. I played threw the game today, and you can get it off teach, but if you select the wrong dialog option, agreeing to get his ship back right away, instead of "...And my other options?", you then have to buy him loads of drinks untill you are one drink away from getting him drunk (on his own terms) and I think he gives you the map. U can steal it off him though.

Butm when I come over there- there IS no Teach. He is not in Ashbury, either. There is only this Salty Ceadric fellow.
Is it possible that there are different versions of 1.0.7.4 patch???

Did you by any chance kill Teach, or otherwise set in motion a chain of events that led to his death? Dropped some cursed item by his feet for example?

Not that I remember. I think we got out of the Isle of Despair safely, and I did not drop any cursed items. I generally don't drop equipment, even if its worthless.

Can the Isle of Despire Bandits kill Teach? Or did the Posin Aracnid in the house come out and kill him?

Odd. Don't quote me on this, but I'm almost kinda sorta certain that your Salty guy with the map doesn't appear unless Teach is dead. One of the game's failsafes.

But I could be horribly mistaken. Must test this sometime....

Sorry, you are mistaken. I was playing through that part about an hour ago and both the guys were there.

I know this is a little off topic so just quickly answer this and then get back on topic but, can that arachnid slaughter the whole town?

Maybe. It killed one of the halfling villagers who was walking by the house for me. I always kill it straight away and grab the Basic Machined Plate until the Dredge. Then I finish the quest.

Who needs a Basic Machine Plate? I never use medium height races as technologists anyway, and the only neutral character who can put on a basic plate without being at least moderately encumbered is Torian Kel, who I never seem to get. So I just dress my tech followers in Dread Armor- maximum protection for minimum of weight, and no worries about repair!

Teach wasn't there when I first arrived at the Blackroot pub either. I did speak with Salty though and he wasn't useful. I then waited until morning and Teach came strolling in for an early morning drink.

Try running the clock forward to morning.

The only time that I saw Salty, Teach was also in the bar. I've only played the game patched, so I don't know how it was before, but I've gone and found Stringy Pete's Cove by stumbling over it more times than I've waited to get a map for it. By the time you can get the map, I've already been to most of the neat places you can use a boat to get to anyway. I guess I'm just not very patient.

I've finished the game both patched and unpatched, and I have never encountered any other situation rather than having both Salty and Teach at the table, with Killian Drake in the corner with his Ogre Destroyer.

However you can kill Teach on the Isle of Dispair and use his ship to get back to Ashbury, I suppose that since the ship will take you back to Asbury (you can't use it again after this), then maybe there is a series of circumstances that can lead to Teach dying on th Isle. However it couldn't be the bandits because they are programmed to appear and then die as soon as you have spoken to Thorvald about
....(what it is that he tells you)....

Hope this helps in some form or another.

Damn, that is a grand idea. This is probably why I haven't seen Teach. So I've wasted my fate point for nothing :( . And I don't really feel like replaying, I've already cleared out the Dredge and Tarant sewers...
