I agree with labyrinthian - if he spells "time" as "tyme" he definitely is Matt. But I don't think he has, and we don't have enough proof still. There is the IP thing, but as other people already said that could be a coincidence...

As has been determined in a rudimentary way above, this poll is either unethical or irrelevant. I think the "tyme" test is a valid one as it would be a concession that Matt was completely unbending on, before, and if he is willing to bend that far then maybe he has a place on this forum. I think Jar needs to step forward and qualify his statement that Dark and Matt use the same IP addresses. I know that Jar ended up barring a whole range of IP's, but has that bar been removed completely?? Only Jar knows.

I won't vote until I see Dark saying "tyme", and even then I might not; he seems like an alright sort thus far. I've said it before and it bears repeating: "Democracy is a lynch mob." Good joke, Q.

You know, I don't seem to recall anyone in this thread having the power or authority to ban someone........ let's leave those decision's up to the people who should be making them.

I don't think anyone on the thread expressed the sentiment that they had the power to ban anyone. However, it would seem to me that the purpose of the moderator is not simply to keep other moderators happy, but rather to ensure the successful functioning of the given board, i.e. this one. Looking back over banning threads, it seems they've always had good reason to ban someone, not some arbitrary power trip. Why change that now? A board is a community, and certainly the members of that community should have a say* in what constitutes a bannable offense, even if, of course, they can't push the button.

*No, it's not really a democracy, but rather an oligarchy with Jinxed as the first oligarch. However, that metaphor falls as well, as there really isn't a government, as everyone is simply here because they want to be.

I agree totally, but to have a poll about a member and then discuss said member without that member even posting in the thread seem's a little rude to me.

But Matt's flaming spam fest lost us members. Anyone seen Chalupa since the incident? Who else stopped posting then? I avoided the GD board for about 3 weeks. It got embarising to read....

DC's absence since this thread started looks compromising.

I thought Matt was bright enough to use a school or libaray computer. Guess not.

Edit: Chalupa has been sighted. She didn't leave. Our efforts in civilizing her have not been wasted.

Okay, quick lesson on IP addresses:

Matt_Thorn/Spaminister/DarkChylde and MatuhChuah use the same ISP, which means they share part of the same address range, that being 64.91.*.* Now, the important part is, MC uses 64.91.7.*, 64.91.30.* and 64.91.35.* (if memory serves). Matt and his clones use a different range completely, which is how I know that MC and Matt are not the same person, but Matt and his clones are.

That said, the IP address banning on this is bugged (or maybe DU has fixed it) and it wasn't properly keeping the banned people out. Either that, or they found a computer using a different ISP.

I feel like I'm spying on a private conversation by posting in this, as I haven't been around, but allow me to explain that: I've been spending time with my grandparents, as my parents took off on anniversary. I too use CenturyTel, and returned to find myself banned. I sent an email to Dark Underlord, who one way or another got me unbanned. Thanks immensely, by the way. I don't mean to seem rude or crude by saying this, but I'm offending that you guys are debating over my right to be here. I'm glad that I'm getting so much support, but would you wait until I step out of line (if I do) to debate on banning me? so I have the same IP as some idiot who once plagued this forum, Matah Cuah has a very similar one, and I believe some other people may as well.

Wait. You e-mailed me? Wait. If it was to my hotmail account, I never check it. I even put a bit of news on my own site about me not checking my e-mails but NOOOOOO...

If moronic users becomes too much of an issue, we simply enforce registration for all forums, delete the existing retards, enable account e-mail activation, force people to use NON free e-mail addresses (IE: no hotmail, e-mail.com, yahoo and about a hundred others that are in the list) and then wait for the retards to try and sign-up again.

When they do (and they'll have to use their home/school or friend's VALID e-mail) and if they become a problem, we ban their e-mail address.

You know, I think we should enforce proper email registration. At least that way we can more confident that new members are in fact new members, and it certainly doesn't seem to hurt some of the bigger sites around.

Yes, fine, but please don't prevent the use of free email services. I ONLY use my free email account.

scary poll indeed - have fun with it or whatever.

anyway you can get infomation from wich computer a ip orginates, but sometimes only through the IProvider - as for example I, we use 14 active IPs over here, well make that 12 as 2 are restricted - and then we have 200 people or so on those 12, some of course with more then 1 computer etc.

but depending on how this IP works with it's customer base you will either have to ask the IP, or decide that yes very few if any have shared active ip's, perhaps every customer gets an active IP for themselves - or anyway few enough to decide that yes peep X is peep Y and ban them all.

and if peep X in this case is peep Y you either have a policy that out is out, and then ban directly (all this bull is indeed just bull shit if so) or you decide to let peep Y (thats really peep X) show if he/she/it has changed and if so keep him in.

I would go with the later on a small site like this, but whack X/Y directly if he missbehaves - as warnings have been enough.

    - the funny seems to be that all the mods in here seems to want X out, and yet he is in, confusing indeed.

Well, when I look at the forum now, there's a little button near the quote and edit ones that says IP for each post. If I click on that, I see all the IP addresses that a user has posted from, and which users have used this particular IP address.

By the gods, I have been missing for a while - missed an entire re-incarnation.

So fill me in - if Matt's been spamming in this incarnation, kick him. If not, then let him stay.
