    u want a compromise???

well it works both ways doesnt it? i have stated wat i wanted as compensation itss not money or a free copy of arcanum but just ure admission of false accusal esp evident from the tone of cyaan and as for monkeypunch. any move on my part to change my nick wifout anything in return would make it seem as if i am wrong and i am not. i cannot accept this. i tell u now i will change it if n only if either cyaan or monkey punch does the necessary as simple as tt

i am part of the minority in my country 7% to be exact and i am not going to submit to any majority esp when i am right. you now have a very simple task of aceding to my request as i do yours or kindly escort me to the door to leave ure "tea party"

and for wat it is worth...thank you M'uad for ure words of support however temp it like the flight of the IFS Zephyr.

I won't apologize for my accusations because it was a bad taste from your side to choose such nick. Even when you say that you didn't know what the nick stood for. Because in these matters doing nothing (or knowing nothing) is one of the bigger mistakes a person can make.

I may have been wrong about your person but with such nick you don't give people any possibilities to judge you otherwise.

And please, try to write in proper english so I don't have to read your posts three times to understand what you are trying to say. I don't want to misunderstand you beacause of that, it would only make things worse.

No. You changing your nick without anything in return would serve the purpose of solving this. It has nothing to do with right or wrong. It has something to do with changing a nick that several people find offensive to something a little more neutral.

We're not blaming you for anything here. We're just asking you to change your nickname on this forum.

As for apologies from Cyann, I do not see how that would have anything to do with you changing your nickname. I don't give a rat's ass about hurt feelings right now. I don't give a rat's ass as to whether or not Cyann came on to strong in telling you about your nick.

I just give a rat's ass about getting it changed.

Last warning. If you want to be a miser about this, you can just get the fuck off our forum, because frankly, I'm getting quite tired of this.

    Misunderstanding?

Combat: It appears to me that you don't actually know what your nick means, I certainly don't, but the others on here seem to be offended at your use of it. If you could maybe tell me where you came up with the nick I'd be interested in knowing, just to satisfy my curiousity. And for those offended by his nick, get over it. It's just a word with some numbers on the end, the fact that he uses it, in no way indicates that he agrees with whatever the original name meant. Maybe he's in the military and he's 18, it's not hard to come up with other possible reasons for that combination of word and numbers. I believe the simplest thing here would be for Cyann to admit he might have made a mistake, and for Combat to just remove the 18 from his name. Not too hard, is it? I tried to avoid this post, but you people are just being closed minded about the whole thing. I understand the moderators viewpoint, but I also sympathize with Combat.

    Friend_al_23,

Like i've said before, we don't generally like an overkill of moderation, but we DO intervene when we feel it's for the better of the board. In this case, Monkeypunch and I felt it would be for the better to have this nick changed, to preserve the peace. (we had a talk about it on the staff forum before taking action)
I hope you don't feel we're being overly zealous on this. So far we've tried finding a reasonable solution, WITHOUT pointing any fingers of blame.

But I'm willing to budge here. Let's have a vote. If a majority of people on this board are all for having complete freedom of nicknames, we'll just let Combat18 keep it, ok? So chime in, everybody. If you guys think it should be OK to have a nick that's a reference to a neo-nazi group (even if it's not meant that way), tell me about it now and we'll make our final decision on it afterwards.

    KKK...

Friend: In case you don't actuallly know what the KKK is other than what the letters mean in your country, her in the United States it stands for Ku Kluk Klan. They are and organization much like the Nazi's were in Germany. Here in the USA they mostly target African Americans, but they hate pretty much anyone that's not what they call "White" They aren't really Nazi's, but they believe almost exactly the same way as Hitler did. By the way, I know several people who live in Germany and the KKK just happens to be a German Computer club ( Computer Clubs Kaufbeuren ).

A news article, for the ignorant:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/new ... 323366.stm

    Then, a full profile:

    http://sites.netscape.net/finnmacchulainn/combat18.htm

The coincidence is striking. You know, Calis...if he keeps mouthing off despite what seems like a SIMPLE way out(change of nick)...just ban him and be done with it. If anyone's too 'OOOOH YOU BANNED HIM YOU ARE ABUSING UR AUTHORITY MY HEART BREAKS', well deal with it, blah.
Hypocrites...if I regged with -Your name-IsADick', I bet you'll change your stance on offensive nicks pretty quickly...there's a difference between offending an ethnic group and offending you, you say? Oh dear...double standards...

I guess I could be in favor for freedom in nicknames. Like KKK for instance which stands differently in different countries. It can mean good and it can mean bad. Combat18 can stand for something good, probably. Besides, how should he know about it when he is in Singapore.

In response to your friend, _AL, my friend had troubles with people because his email is Boro666. Some people accuse him instantly of being a satanist, I just think it's hilarious, like they have nothin to do but jump to sloppy conclusions based on email or nicknames, I mean, why are you people such overreacting pshycos? Combat18 is a funny name as I see it, as is Mr. Oswald or Hiv positive. I think If you take offence in such things you have too much free time and you are bored. If it wouldn't be for such people(no offence) the terra arcanum staff wouldn't probably notice this or take action. I lived in many cultures and those people that fight agains such things are just passing time. Fine maybe combat was alittle unaware of things, but sheesh get over it and let him be.

for beelzebubba...the origins of the nick is exactly as how u tot of it...in singapore every male is supposed to undergo national service or armed forces training at age 18 regardless of education and stature and i am a combat medic by vocation and hence i have used this nick since 1997 at a thousand of other boards gaming or otherwise(this is as i hav told monkeypunch in a private e-mail)

for cyaan...maybe u shld improve ure english in order for u to read my future posts since it takes u three times to "proofread" my messages. sorry i will try to cater to challenged individuals like u in the future. i hope u understood this.

for Calis the nasrudin of this board... if this isnt a matter of right and wrong why are you guys on my back. shldnt it be brushed away. the fact of the matter is that this is abt right and wrong. two different rights and two different wrongs. ure version of it and mine. just one more question, are u gonna to critcise and scrutinise ppl with offensive nicks in this board. then i am sure u will come across a lot them....ure ability in spotting offensive nicks is limited only by ure ignorance or the extent of ure general knowledge.
pls understand not everyone lives in america or europe...there is a world beyond ure noses.

thks meltdown for the links it was an eyeopener...but i wouldnt care if u use "Sanjay-is-a-dick"(which Sanjay is my name)as a nick cus who knows wat duress u went under a "sanjay" before.and because i kno its not me. furthrmore, i am neither the judge, the jury nor the executioner. To each his own if u ask me.

but the more u read the links and apply it to wat is going on here it doesnt make sense. i am a minority in land where yellow substitutes the color white.. i am refered to as "asian colored" by europeans and americans.
so all the more, my call of arms would be against nazism rather than for it. however watever way they came up with their nick...i came up with mine based on wat i felt and still feel is a turning pt in my life.if i hd read thoselinks at that time and then assumed their nick then i am totally in the wrong...or in hindsight if i had read those links at that stage in life.. i would have chose sumthin else.but not when it is a coincidence.

the only reason i keep replying is becos i want to clear this up and stay on in this board.i kinda like as my source of arcanum hints. and unlike other boards it showed integrity when not divulging secrets of arcanum b4 its release. some of u have shown me my ignorance in choosing a name likewise i need to show u ure ignorance in judging a person. thats all. admit urs and i will gladly admit mine.

finally Calis wat this abt rats asses?? u must really like them

Alright, your explanation checks out, combat...but really, you need to take more care in international forums...now, I wouldn't say the concern over the nick was unwarranted, though. Should get prepared to explain your nick to rather flustered people.

If not, changing 'combat' to something else would work.

No malice there, but still misinformed...

    shld? ure? shldnt? abt?

If you post your messages in word most of the text would have red lines under it.

I know now that you didn't have any bad intentions behind choosing your nick but if you keep it you will propably get attacked about it more times in the future.
Those of us who are not ignorant about what happens elsewhere in the world will see you as an nazi when they see your nick.

Well, the reason we were "on your back" is that you weren't prepared to take the simple solution here... as I said before, I'm fine with you as a person. We asked you to change the nick because of its double meaning. But hey, if the general opinion on this board is that it's fine to have a nickname that also happens to be the name of a neo-nazi organization, then keep it... though I'm still not too jazzed about it. Oh well.

Cyann, in Asia, text messaging is very popular. I hope you know that. I get angry with a friend of mine for the same silly reason such as this. I come to realize that his problem was not about typing well, or putting on the correct grammar, etc. It was mainly because it was hard for him to type in the keys using his cellphone. Yes, I guess he could at least spend some time typing in the correct spelling and such but there are other things to concern about. Like what if he got disconnected or he can't reach a signal? It will again take him twice the time typing those messages. Another thing to concern about is the battery which consumes it's span typing those messages.

I guess it can carry on when he goes online. Or maybe he is using his cellphone typing those messages. Besides its the Internet. The Internet taught us BTW, LOL, :), OMHO, etc.

Hi there Combat18! Nice to see a fellow yellow-skinned person just as myself.

Here's a message to anyone over the age of, oh...how about 13.

First off, if you don't know what Combat18 is that doesn't automatically make you ignorant of the world. Believe it or not we don't all subscribe to Modern White Supremist magazine and there's a lot of things happening in a lot of places at this exact moment. At this point I'd be satisfied if the average American could point to Germany on a map, but maybe that's just a stereotype I have an hangup about...

Second, since when does everyone start pulling the race card? Suddenly this is about being "yellow" or "Asian" or a "minority"? Can somebody please explain to me what that has to do with anything?

Third, is anyone here so offended by the very word 'Combat18' (which apparently has some very significant personal meaning to this guy to the point where changing could set off an international incident) that they DEMAND that he change it, for they can't seem to post in the same forum as him?

Fourth, this guy has shown no signs of being a nazi, a member of the Klan, a cannibal or a redneck. So really this all comes down to nitpicking details doesn't it?

    Hi everybody!

(Waits for a response from people but gets none)

Personally I had no idea what Combat18 meant before reading this thread, but it is just a name. Yet if I had a name like KKK-owns-all (and theoreticly being a person with 3 k's initals), had no idea what it meant b4 making it, and I suddenly found out that it meant something that many people find offencive, I would change it. Combat18 said that his name is not meant to symbolize anything relating to the nazi group, but the admins still find such a thing very offencive (It is their site). If I was Combat or the admins I'd just change it. I'm a happy person, I don't know about you, but being that way I would not like something ( dark, depressing and disturbing) like that to be even have a tie with every post I make...
