    I dunno... Maybe?

What's a platitude? Try one, let's see if it helps.

    Good morning.

Hey, I'm the one living in Germany now. You can't take that, it's my thing.

    Good morning.

So I went camping last night, enjoyed a little solitude in an old growth forest in the Pacific Northwest. I decided to forego the tent, since it was a beautiful warm summer night. All was peaceful until around 4:30 AM. I was awoken by the crash of a limb falling from a tree somewhere nearby. Just when I had decided it was nothing and started settling down to go back to sleep, I heard a sound of galloping hoofs. Then six or seven deer came blasting through my campsite at full speed, literally two feet from my head, followed by what I assume was a coyote chasing them (I couldn't see a damn thing, but I spotted a coyote slinking around later in the morning).

But other than that rude interruption by the natives, it was a perfectly pleasant camping trip!

    Good morning.

Yeah, there's nothing like an outdoors wank. Makes you feel so close to nature.

    Good morning.

For the first time in what feels like a very long time, good morning.

Obviously, the deer and the coyote were fleeing from the tree that nearly killed you with its, uh... limb.

    Good evening.

I wonder if it was THE tree, or just a friend of his.

The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. Neither does the limb.

    Good day.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that a female Doctor Who will not mark the end of civilization.

    Good morning.

    That challenged my limbic system.

    Good evening.

    Good morning, good morning.

I don't care about the new doctor. Like, at all.

The one in the seventies was super gay, as opposed to the regular gay of many other incarnations, so it's fitting that he is now transgender, which I gather is the millennial equivalent. So edgy. Besides which, being a regenerating alien he's probably overdue for a casual gender swap.

Of course, generally speaking, here in Australia, englishmen are considered female anyway.

Huh, I sure didn't know that sequential hermaphroditism was a trait of the pommy race. Oh well.

    Good morning.

Personally I couldn't care less about Dr. Who, but some of the backlash to the announcement has annoyed me. My 40 something perpetually jobless UKIP-voting geek brother (because those things naturally all go together) said that didn't support the change if it was done for "political correctness reasons" and that she would have to "prove herself as the Dr." (or at least words to that effect). He also got my nieces to agree that it was weird too (I'd imagine along the lines of a leading question like, "That's weird, right?"), because heaven forbid he support a positive role model for them which he is clearly massively failing at (and like what 90% of fans with daughters did). I just thought the whole language he used was off, that she had to "prove herself", if it was a man in the role I bet no one would be demanding that he "prove himself".

So I did what any sane man would do, and complained to my other brother about it via Facebook messenger (which doesn't do much to assuage the whole "englishmen are female" point). I think the depressing thing is I'm pretty sure there's plenty of neckbeard gimp fans who'll feel exactly the same way, just because casting a woman has spoilt their escapist fantasies where they can imagine themselves as the Dr.

    Good morning.

So there have actually been some complaints? I guess I'm so entrenched in my liberal (and apparently feminine) bubble that I never see the complaints about these things, only the complaints about the complaints. So for the recent Ghostbusters film I read about how all these people were complaining, but I never read anyone actually complain. Same with Doctor Who. As far as I know, everyone has either reacted positively or indifferently. I've started to suspect that the supposed right wing anti-progressive movement doesn't really exist and is just a bogeyman conjured up so people can unleash their sense of superiority.

Then again, Trump and Brexit did both win, so it's more likely I'm just spectacularly well insulated.

    Good morning.

I don't know if there's been many formal complaints to the BBC about it, but when the BBC article about her casting was being shared around Facebook about 20% of people were putting the "anger" response smiley and there was obviously comments about it like my brother's (and also much worse I'm sure). As such I don't think an anti-progressive right wing movement is as much of a bogeyman as you'd hope.

    Good morning.
