I idly read a children's detective classic. Nancy Drew and The Moss Covered Mansion.

It blew my mind and I wanted to share my review here so that I can use the word "retarded".

The most retarded thing I ever read, No stars.

Seeing as how I have no proof that you are not in the target demographic of 8-12yrs and other adolescents (it is the interwebz, after all), I find this odd.
If you are an adult, I can see this as being justified and understandable.

I read the Hunger Games (well, the first 2.5) and found Katniss to be a doltish git of a drama queen, but I'm way outside the target audience.
Though, the movies did try to fix this.

I, too, was gifted a box set of The Hunger Games trilogy last Christmas. I'm not sure why, I'm an adult in his 30's without children. I read them at any rate, and found them to be simply, merely..... okay. The first book was meh-okay, the second book was actually pretty decent, but it's hard to be objective because the third was so horribly bad that it tainted my memory of enjoyment of the first two.

One should take in pride in the fact that he chooses to spend his leisure time reading, but the number of grown adults gravitating toward young adult fiction is a sad reflection of literate maturity. :(

    Sorry, Henry

Guess it's better than reading child magazines for the pictures.

I'm half reading Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly.

It has such poignant paragraphs as: Boom. Fireball.

And the guy kills a crocodile with his bare hands in chapter one and is like: No problem, kiddo.

A high octane ham and cheese sandwich with extra corn.

    2 stars.

Isn't that another Young Adult novel? I know I'm late to the bandwagon, but I recently read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I really liked it, but the first quarter of the novel was a little slow and ponderous. If you can slog through it it's pretty good, though my father disagreed and didn't think the beginning was so bad, so YMMV.

Welcome back I guess. Are you the genuine article, or just an admirer? If you're HWLFP, I hope you've grown out of trolling this place by now.

I think I read the prologue of The Name of the Wind, but it didn't draw me in so I didn't buy the book. I recently finished book 2 of The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson. Good books, shaping up to be a great series. Although,
the typical fantasy novel 'lordening' of the main characters has pretty much already happened by the end of book 2, so I wonder if the focus will shift to other characters now.

I love how this place has its own mythos and that HWLFP is its very own Satan.

I think "He Who Loves" has a nice old-fashioned romantic feel to it. Congrats on the re-branding.

Im just glad to see the old place is still going. Despite the conduct of my involvement in the past, the House Of Lords will always feel like home.

Dark Elf takes a hiatus and now he's back and so is HWLFP, coincidence or is DE playing the long game with some sort of mad social experiment? If I ever see a paper called, "In silico obscura: A study of internet forum hysteria through sporadic trolling," I'm guessing it's the latter.

In other news I'm reading LA Confidential, because I'm not a twelve year old girl. It's good so far, albeit there are many characters who have little to no characterisation so it's difficult to remember which backstory goes with which of the many generically named white 1950s policemen interacting with the individual protagonists.

Are you referring to the manga, or did someone actually do one of those full color type things?
Also, yes. 10/10. Superbly engrossing with the occasional kick to the feels.

Well, he does love chess, so I can see him attempted the subtle maneuvering this would take here.
