Thanks nobodie and canis. Definitely some interesting links there.

yeah but that doesn't mean he's wrong just gives him a motive to say these thing even if they are untrue. I don't know but if it's even remotely true that google has the right to retain ownership of my emails even after I delete them if I choose to do so I may delete the account.
Definitely something I want to look into more again thankx for the links.

The real question is why the hell they think that gmail is creepier than any other e-mail or postal mail service. All of those give opportunity for privacy breaches that are just as reasonable as gmail's.

Having a gmail account was a nifty thing for some of the really initial time, but now there are enough invites all around that it might as well just have registration on the front page. Although the invite system might be a better way to do it.

You can make innuendo laced jokes about them.

You get 1 GB of free storage, and an advanced filter system and a great search.

    Hotmail gives you 2 MB's.

But... with g-mail... you' won't have too...

I'm not going to use g-mail, because I know a few years from now, I'll have a 999 megabytes of e-mails archived, and it will be time for me to go through them and figure out which to delete and which to save... and... <shudder> no thanks.

So just delete the messages as you would normally instead of archiving them. Despite what that "Gmail Is Creepy" site says, it's not difficult at all to delete messages permanently. I delete everything I don't need just because I like to be tidy, even though I have the room.

I like it because it's a clean, simple interface with minimal ads, because it doesn't put any ads in your outgoing messages that I can tell, because I haven't yet been overwhelmed by spam like in my Yahoo account, and because I got a spiffy username.

Thanks. I edited my email out so that email harvesters won'tpick it up. Should've added a nospam thing in it in the first place.
