I know what you're thinking: the inevitable question. "How do I make a world map?" Actually, I do have a specific question. I just made my first world map a few hours ago (props to Zammy, whose manual I finally found), and I have the image of the maps appearing correctly. However, when I travel, I occasionally exit the map view and enter the normal playing view (of one's character centered in the screen, one hopes), but often end up at the very edge of my map, and consistently at (0, 182), the total map size being 500x500. I end up at this location regardless of my destination. Usually I will travel a few times, and sometimes the first few I'll end up in good shape. But eventually, I'll exit the map and be at (0,182), with my character not visible (he's way above the screen.) I dont know if this helps, but my coordinate offsets from worldmap.mes are 0,0 and I have the PC start in the middle of the world map. I just made this mod a few hours ago, before I ended up finding Zammy's guide, and it has no scripts except for the default 3, and not even any entries in gamearea.mes except the default, 0. What could be going on? Any help would be much appreciated.
Have you checked that the size and number of map chunks corresponds with the actual map? Is the main map assigned as the starting map? The tutorial covers it really. I think I googled it a couple of years ago, I assume it's the same one you have. How did you find the Zammy tutorial? Do you have a link?
Zammy's guide http://web.archive.org/web/200310211107 ... /worldmap/ I didn't read the entire thing, because I had figured out how to do a lot of it already. I looked for a guide online and found his because i was looking for a way to solve another problem, which turned out to be a stupid error- i put underscores between the map chunk index name and the chunk number. Yes, i checked the size, number and position of the chunks. I think that the actual terrain must bound travel on the worldmap: the map image is just a facade. Zammy mentions this, but also it's also demonstrable in Arcanum: you can't go some places along the shore of Roseborough even though it looks like they should be accessible. Also, it is the starting map, and i checked mapkeyedto in worlded.mes. Here's my worlded.mes, or the two lines that matter, anyway. {20}{0, 0} // Remove this? {50}{2, 2, Zombie, ZoomedName: ZombieZoomed, MapKeyedTo: 1} I've done some more testing, and looked at every .mes file i could think of that could possibly relate to a world map. It seems that I can continue to travel short distances. If i click the travel button and then quickly right-click, and repeat this, I can travel a very long distance and arrive with my character correctly centered. But try to travel even a quarter of that distance all in one go, and my screen will end up in the right place, but my character will not.
I don't know what the problem was here, but I just copied the parts I changed over another mod with a world map, and it worked just like I designed mine to.
