Why??

Why did the shoot tech in the proverbial foot right from the start?

I have had this game a few weeks now and I still can't believe how underpowered guns are.

It especially bothers me that a shotgun is 1-10 damage, 1-10 fatigue, speed 4, range 5.. now compare that to any of the basic melee weapons you can have from the Beginning or almost the beginning of the game.

Shotgun vs Balanced sword? Puhleeze..You can have a balanced sword before you get out of shrouded hills, but no shotgun.

Shotgun with app. firearms still 5 ap a shot, vs 2 ap with a balanced sword and app. melee.

In terms of damage and fatigue, the balanced sword OWNS the shotgun, and MANY other guns for that matter.

You telling me sucking up a shotgun blast at point blank wont hurt? The potential for a shotgun to do 1 damage sucks too. It should be more like 6-18 damage a shot and do a huge pile of fatigue damage. (just my opinion)

I wont even get into the magic swords. Some of them make the majority of guns look like crap.

The one thing that gets to me so bad is the fact that there are so MANY crap guns. Sure, they can't all be good but why make half or more of existing guns just plain STINK?

Don't even get me started on how a spell you can start with (harm) has the potential to do tons more damage per round than about any gun. Since you won't be spending money on bullets, you can just load up on fatigue potions and Harm your way right through just about anything.

I would give anything to know how things like this make it past Q&A. First thing I would be doing would be working on item balance and try and make items have specific strengths and weaknesses so people don't just make a race for the uber sword, gun, throwing wpn, etc.

Not particulary except that you have made a good point and the guns are just to weak and un balanced compared to all the other weapons.

 

Throwing Weapons and Bows are weak as well, it's not just guns.

 

Bows aren't that weak, coupled with a Mage character, they are quite useful.

 

Thrown weapons are only weak if you discount grenades, which arevery strong.

 

I didnt think the Tesla gun was weak,but it was ridiculus that the pyro-axe was one of the most powerful melee weapons in the game,seeing as you can get it after playing for about a half an hour.

 

Molotov Cocktails

The molotov cocktails are extremely powerful. They take no AP to use so you can throw as many as you want. The damage is quite high so you can take out just about anything. You can use the cocktail at point blank range and only the enemy gets damaged. not you or your followers. Oh, the only bad part about using them is the explosion will damage armor on the opponent.

 

throwing weapons weak? with a good chakram (mystical chakram) or better yet azrams star combined with throwing mastery throwing is lethal , high dex is the requisite and 10 20-30 damage attacks per round with criticals being par for the course is nothing to sniff at

 

Yeah, guns are underpowered, but it's in the game and we're stuck with it. Consider it a challenge.

Playing a spellcaster or a melee character gets boring fast because it's so easy. Maybe guns aren't underpowered; Melee and magic are overpowered. It's way to easy to get a decent sword or a pyro axe, spend a couple points in backstab, and then completely own anyone or anything for the whole rest of the game.

 

Guns are fun tho, you can put them together yourself, and then after all your hard labor you'll still have ways to go for a better gun. And once you get pyro axe there is no better items anymoree...

I'm confused with bows and throwing, you can shoot out like 10 arrows in a second, and you can use one throwing weapon, to shoot out about 3 blades, I had a chakram i found in azaram star quest, and i could launch it 3 times before catching it.

 

Chakram

I think that's just the animation timing you see. You only have 1 Chakram to launch and you launch it each time it comes back. But if you miss, the animation keeps going even though you can "throw" it again.

 

OH, well since I had the throwing skill from my Beat with an Ugly Stick background and apprentice, I guess I did miss alot. :smile:

After getting goatse'd, I was careful enough to avoid getting comp-u-geeked. But from what I've read, it's just a page that pops-up a shitload of goatse windows so fast that it's impossible to close them all. Imagine getting caught with that at work.
