Right, here's one that has me baffled. From time to time, during battle, some sort of red pinwheel effect will go off over my head, I'll turn translucent blue, and I'll be frozen like that for a while until the little pinwheel comes back, takes the blue away, and unfreezes me. What the heck is that all about, and who's doing it? I thought it might be an enemy mage, but it has also happened during random orc encounters, and I don't seem to recall them using magick normally. That leaves Virgil.... but what could he be casting on me? Sanctuary? Isn't that only good against undead? And what if I don't WANT to be frozen blue, dagnabbit?! Happened to Dog today also, against some polar bears in Hardin's Pass. He didn't seem too thrilled about it, though he did look good in blue.
Well, I can give you just a bit of info about it... The special effect of that strange spell, is the same than Flesh to Stone spell. Also it seems to have a similar effect. I was victim of that spell in my way through Hardin's Pass. I think those Baleful... thing... can do that. I don't know why you suffer that in Orc encounters... maybe you have a cursed item. I hope that bit of information helps for something... :???:
Flesh to Stone? That would be... odd.... I don't use hexed items as a matter of principle, at least not when I'm playing goodish characters. Evil mage characters are a different story, but I hardly ever play those. It just happened again, during an orc encounter. Just before Virgil's turn a little red pinwheel appeared over Magnus's head, but I guess he resisted because he didn't turn blue. Could Virgil possibly be doing this? The only scrolls he has are Exiting scrolls. Maybe he has a secret life we don't know anything about.... Ah well. It doesn't happen often enough to screw up my game.
The pinwheel efect is also used by some spell flinging rats (granite?) in the BMC mines, but that spell is Weakness. I don't know who in the pass uses that wierd spell, but I have had it cast on me too. A Freeze spell? Last few times through was with archers. Whoever they were, they never got close enough to cast anything. I haven't run into Orc mages, but they probably would be dumb enough to fire their only shot at a Dwarf.
But those granite rats' spell uses some kind of horizontal, silver-grey pinwheel, and it has a sound associated with it. This pinwheel is rose-red, and it's more a straight vertical pinwheel, and I don't recall any sound going with it. Except when Magnus resists it of course, but that's different. Bizarre.
It wasn't quite sarcasm, but if you're referring to the childish sheep "quest" I neither tried it, nor did I miss it in the slightest. :-x
actually i was refering to his past, but the "sheep" one is good too, i tried it numerous times..... ahhhh Belle you wool feels so soft against my thighs.
Ohhhhhh his PAST. I have got to stop thinking such filthy thoughts so early in the morning, I'm sure it's unhealthy.
Forgive me, lords and ladies, but I'm out of the loop on the whole 'Virgil The Pervert' joke. Is there actually something in the game which shows this, or is it something you HOL people have made up? Belle will do her little twirl for any follower you happen to let follow you into the room unless I'm mistaken(yet it always tends to be virgil anyway). Any person who takes that as indication of Virge's bestiality has obviously paid for Belle themselves and can't talk anyway.
It's just something made up by the Virgil-haters out there. You know the way it is, some people just don't like a particular NPC, and instead of just not having that follower in their party and leaving it at that they develop a most unhealthy, obsessive hatred for the follower. I recall this sort of thing happened with some female players over the Anomen character in BG2 ("Sir Dickweed" I believe they christened him). Anyway, no, there's nothing in the game which, to my knowledge, would indicate that Virgil is partial to bestiality, or is gay, or a pervert, or in fact anything other than a normal male with normal male inclinations. The whole "Virgil-the-Pervert" joke says more about the Virgil-haters than it does about Virgil. Virgil is great. So is Peter Gabriel, now that I think about it.... Have you heard his new album? I can't stop listening to it.... But I digress.
Thank you. But It would actually be a really good thing to put into a game like this : one of your most faithfull colleagues is a pervert. But you only get to find out if you make the plot choices, character development, and conversation paths to actually get close to him and have him confess.
